Another great TIPA, this time a collaboration between Resident Culture and Vitamin Sea Brewery, Second Hand Shanty. Resident Culture seems to be pumping out the double digit TIPAs recently (all delicious and in all the alcohol is scary hidden).

After a pretty much dry January I indulged in a 6-pack of Carlsberg tonight which brings back fond memories of Copenhagen as it was on sale for about CAD$10 which is a great value.
The 6-pack came without any plastic holder as in a concession to the environment to reduce excess plastic waste which I applaud the cans are glued together with the same sort of sticky stuff as credit cards are stuck to letters from card issuers so a firm flex is required to separate the cans from each other. It's unique as I haven't encountered this packaging before but I'm all for doing my part for the environment. |
Drinking my last Heady Topper - Threes Brewing in BK was lucky enough to get a shipment at the start of the year, Just got the cast and sling off my arm (broke a bone in the elbow last week), so figured it was appropriate to celebrate.

Superstition Tahitian Honeymoon mead. Now, I love all everything from this AZ meadery (my exception is the so-so PB&J Crime; there are much better PB&J meads out there including from Garagiste)... But this is sublime. $30 for a 750?! Yes, please. Beats their $90/500 Berry White series which is among the best fermented beverage you'll find in terms of bang for the buck. Light, sweet, smooth, and absolutely hides the fact it's 13.5%. I'd say crushable if I wasn't getting hammered on a weeknight enjoying this.

Two pints of Flying Monkey IPA

Another Dark Night yesterday encountered two highs:
Bravo Tango Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout, from Connecticut Valley Brewing Co; probably the blackest of stouts I've tasted, with taste not quite as full as the color, but compensated with an ABV of 11%. The evening's winner, hands down Breakfast Stout (Double Chocolate Coffee Oatmeal Stout) from Founders Brewing Co, Grand Rapids, MI. A very complex, full taste, ABV 8.3 . Could very well consider this for breakfast for a non-working day  |
Having been working in Amarillo TX for a couple weeks, I tried several Texas brewed IPAs. I don't remember ever trying an IPA from Texas before. My 2 favorites are Karbach Hop Tongue, and Deep Ellum. Honorable mention to El Chingon by Four Corners Brewing. All of the others were at least acceptable. I was impressed.

Ordered in a few 4-packs from Equilibrium. Had their Tangerine Peel Laboratory, a triple IPA that drinks smoothly but has a lot of tartness due to the twice-over treatment to tangerine and orange rinds/skins. Now having Fluctuation, which has a good mouthfeel but definitely a bit of an (intended) uneven flavor profile.
I really wish NY would update their laws to allow for beer out of state to be shipped in. I see now that Foam Brewery in Burlington and Trillium in MA are both shipping to numerous other states...but not good ole NY...would really help because I feel like Other Half (my main go-to over the pandemic) has decided to do more basic styles of beer for home delivery, instead of their more eclectic/experimental IPAs. |

Resident Culture Double Universe DIPA (a more reasonable 8.2% compared with their recent 10%+ TIPAs)
RC is just cranking out killer brews right now (apart from one that was just a big miss but I can look past that with brews like this). They've moved ahead of New Anthem as my top brewery in NC. |

You are okay, it's only 10.6%, the print is poor. 😉
