I wouldn't bother with the Stone German IPA. I thought it tasted terrible.

When you are in SD, be sure to hit these places if you can.

North County

Pizza Port (Carlsbad is my favorite)
Lost Abbey/Port Brewing
Mother Earth
Churchill's Pub

Mid County & South

Societe
Alesmith
Green Flash
Ballast Point
Obrien's
Toronado
Pizza Port OB
Alpine

As for what's in my beer fridge now, 6 bottles of Duck Duck Gooze from Lost Abbey.

SaigonCyclo: would your recommendations still be the same for someone going down to SoCal who is NOT into IPAs? That's me, next weekend. I'll be going to the Bruery for an event, and thought we should check out other places while "in the area". We were considering going as far south as SD....maybe. Pizza Port, Lost Abbey (maybe -- heard tasting room wasn't "so much different" than what you can find in stores?), Churchill's, and Societe were on the list. Plus maybe Beachwood BBQ.

My own beer fridge is overstocked with Bruery bottles from my Reserve Society membership. Plus some Allagash and Almanac for good measure.

Nice! I went on their brewery tour several years back and it was a lot of fun. They make a great pilsner ^

I hardly drink Elder anymore. I can get it all the time, but I enjoy many San Diego IPA's more now. SD has some great IPA's and 2X IPA's on year round. Glad I live there most of the year.

How about Ballast Point's Sculpin IPA? Yummy.

Hope this wasn't too late. Definitely would recommend heading to SD. Pizza Port and Churchill's will have a large variety of different beers on tap. Societe will only have their beers, but it's well worth the visit if you are that far South. Lost Abbey will have quite a few beers that won't be available in stores (they have been selling their Track beers recently and often have one or two specialty taps on the weekend). It gets pretty busy on Saturdays with brewery tour groups. Sunday is a bit quieter.

That stuff is actually halfway decent... very hard to find though. I don't mind the -- slightly more common -- stubbies either and the "draft" Tsingtao (which isn't "draft" at all) is also drinkable, but I try to avoid anything all other varieties of Tsingtao like the plague.

Felt like something a bit different... Matso's Mango Beer

Oh, goodness... that sounds revolting. But, to be fair, I've had beers flavored with less complementary fruits. In fact, my company is selling a banana bread beer from England. While many Chinese people seem to like it, I can't pitch it with a straight face, so I don't even bother. The worst I've ever encountered is a pineapple beer made by either Yanjing or Tsingtao... simply awful!

Mine is embarrassing...
-Miller Lite a month past the drink by date
-Heineken Light, probably 2 months past the drink by date
-Bottle of some Korbel Champagne also

Have to get a reload this weekend.

You may need an intervention

But letting those beer expire is a much better option than consuming them. ;)

And Korbel Champagne isn't. Dead Monks are rolling in their graves ever time those two words are spoken. It is, however good to use as a soaking bath to clean your pennies so they do not dirty your pockets.
