If she's single now, I call dibs.

Seriously, though, I love love love good kimchi. There's a pretty decent Korean restaurant in London near where I work, and I go by there to get a kimchi fix once in a while. They don't make their own though

Weirdly, the only place in London that I know makes its own kimchi is a steakhouse called Hawksmoor that makes it for their kimchi cheeseburger (which is scrumptious).

It's absolutely fantastic. The grill the cheese onto the burger so it has that caramelised/smoky taste. The kimchi gives it a really nice tangy flavour. Hard to describe, but excellent. Next time you're in London, give me a shout. I'm always up for an excuse to go there.

Don't forget to sqeeze out the moisture out before doing this at home. If not, you'll have very soggy kimchi bits.

I also learned that unless it's in a *really* tight container, keeping it around too long is a good way to get some serious kimchi funk in your fridge.
That's when kimchi tastes even better

I may have to check this out, since I don't normally hear "London", "Cheeseburger", and "Scrumptious" in the same sentence.

Now that I looked it up, I'll see if I have some spare time in the next few days, I was planning on going up by Spitalfields anyways, would make a nice detour.

kaszeta:

The burgers are only available in the bar area at their Seven Dials location by Covent Garden (which is gorgeous), not at the Spitalfields spot.

If you plan on going monday or tuesday, let me know. I'll be around and am always up for lunch with an FTer

P.S. A burger+chips+salad will set you back 15 a head.

You haven't lived until you've tried the version of a "Kimchi Burger' from the Kitok in Waco, TX, cheaper for most than London, and hardly a suburb of Seoul.

The "Lip Locker", a double CB, cheese melted between the patties on the griddle, comes with a fried egg and the alternate topping of a healthy dose of homemade Kimchi.

Thanks. I'll let you know, but I probably won't be free until later in the week.

Yeah, I'm used to that sort of thing in London....

I toured the kimchi museum in Seoul recently and learned lots about the delicacy. Well worth a detour if you're nearby. ^

Admission fee is only $4 or $3...or 3,000 won

and hmmmm... being a Korean, I am somewhat reluctant to say that I'm into kimchi. I like what my mother makes, but I haven't had kimchi for 2~3 years now. I don't miss it though!

Yes, lots and many varieties you can help yourself to at the end of the small museum. Like everything else in Seoul very well signed in English. A bit hard out of the way in the basement of the COEX Mall but I followed a few signs and eventually got there.

Of course, it's not quite like a brewery tour but well worth a visit if you're in the mall shopping or at a nearby convention.
