Finally, in some cases it could be worth doing an additional connection if the odds of a cheap upgrade are good enough.
KL seasonally flies 787s to MSP. I wouldn't risk being in a 3-3-3 Y cabin on the off chance a DoD upgrade is purchasable. I'm sticking to DL metal and I'll use my PM access to C+ or exits, thanks. I did do the DoD upgrade ex-AMS once, and while it was fairly expensive, it was worth it that one time due to meetings I had after landing. Never even considered it any other time in many trips, so not a big loss IMO.

My beef (not central to this thread, but related in the AMS is a hot mess category) is when there is a seat selection problem after KL takes control. DL phone and twitter are helpless, and LK staff lack helpfulness.

Any recent updates on day of departure upgrades from AMS?

I am booked in Y+ AMS-SEA on A330neo in June. Delta app shows 450 EUR offer to upgrade to Premium Select and 1200 EUR for Suites each way, which is roughly the same as fare difference between cabins.

Is there possibility that upgrade prices will go down closer to departure or any option of cheap cash upgrade in AMS?

Not much action here, which implies the current upgrade policy (If available on KLM and none on Delta) is still in effect. Anyone have any different experiences recently?
