It had nothing to do with tariffs, but, the Trump administration is to blame. Luckily, the ITC has no Trump appointees and used logic and reason to overturn the silliness at the Trump influenced Commerce Department.
To blame? Or to thank?
A220's start rolling off the assembly line at Airbus' campus in Mobile, Alabama, USA, mid-2020.

Prior to the admin's involvement, production was only slated for Mirabel.

Probably, but only the A220-300 model and only those destined for the US market are slated to be assembled in Mobile. (Unless we get swamped by so many orders that Mirabel can't keep up).

But that stupid complaint ensured Canada did not buy those 24 "interim" F-18 E/F from Boeing. Thanks goodness, what a waste of money that would have been! And it would have ensured Boeing get the next 80 or so.

Legacy F-18s are to be replaced soon. MPAs (Auroras) are also to be replaced soon. And finally our air refuellers (A310) are also to be replaced soon. (Too bad we just bought a bunch of Chinooks).

What are now the chances of Boeing of getting any of those you think?

Having now a considerable foot print / industrial participation in Canada, Airbus appears now to be a favored supplier for the Canadian government.

Do you really think this stupid complaint was a smart move?
Boeing just needed to keep offering B-737-700 at $22M ea - like what was offered to United - and they would have killed the CSeries anyways.

Definitely a shot across the bow of certain competitor airline hubs (IAH and DFW). Maybe it will work? I'd fly an A220 in a heartbeat compared to a cramped 737.

Yeah this seems like an extremely smart move. They are putting their newest product on these routes, which should mean few mechanical problems and certainly more comfortable than a 737 with 2-3 seating. At the same time the smaller size of the aircraft means they're being conservative with capacity so they do not have to engage in a price war with UA and AA in order to fill the plane.

This goes deeper than Boeing vs Airbus. This hits at the heart of Conservative vs Liberal Canada. The legacy F18 deal was the Liberal's answer to the Conservative's failed attempt at replacing F18's with F35's ten years ago. Now, they're in a trade spat and they're handcuffing the RCAF with "bucket of bolts," used Aussie Legacy F18's scrapping the $6.3B Super Hornet project. The only problem in this gamble and with this political posturing is that they're still going to need a two engine fighter solution, except now it's just going to raise the eventual cost of replacement--an even greater waste of money.

The brilliant part is Delta comes out a winner in all of this. An amazingly well built aircraft, that's tops in the world in this size, that suits their needs at a bargain price, thanks in large part to the Quebec taxpayer.

2-3 is nice but not that big of a deal - especially since a lot of these routes already run 717s anyways. I'm more interested in the fact that the seats are 18.5 inches wide (with an option to have a massive 19" in the middle seat of the row with three. I was on a 9 abreast 777 a few weeks ago and those seats feel downright palatial. (Mind you the 717s already have comparatively generous seat width, but 18.5 is far and away the largest for a narrowbody).

There was some talk that C-Series/220 would revolutionize long-thin domestic routes. Not with this batch of announcements - everything here is within range of E75/CR9. Monday's schedule LGA-DFW is primarily E75. All E75 on LGA-IAH. DTW-DFW gets quite a mix: E70, E75, CR9, 717 and 320. SLC-DFW is 3x 717, 1x E75 and 1x 738. MSP-DFW is 4x Cr9 and 3x 717.

There have been references to Delta's purchase contract with Bombardier having a flight distance limit. Mean? Median?

I believe it is mean. But regardless Delta has stated that they do not intend to heavily exploit this for long-thin routes. That said, JFK and LGA to DFW and IAH are both pretty long flights (3h+) - certainly not a short regional hop.

Planes like the E-175 already have a 2000 nm+ range. It simply wasn't economical to run them on longer routes due to crew cost per hour (among other things).

I get excited when I ride Delta's newest plane.
I get depressed when I ride American's newest plane.

Delta today said they don't have any payments if their flight exceeds a specific length, though that was discussed in the Bombardier tariff lawsuits:
