Separate tickets question

Separate tickets question
I already bought LAX-TYO Delta tickets when it was very good price thinking I just can drive from Las Vegas where I live.
Then I found a good price Delta ticket LAS-LAX. If I buy this ticket how Delta handles it?
Just like Separate tickets which they wont help in case of the delay ?

Delta may accommodate you in case of a delay but is not obligated to do so.

I've been told by agents that if both tickets are booked via Delta, they will assist in the event of problems. I've even had offers to combined itineraries when schedule changes happen. But again, the end result will likely vary depending on who the agent is.
