Engine noise? There is basically none in the first eight rows or so. Definitely none in 4A, my favorite seat.

Definitely not going to miss the blaring PAs and 400 Hz interference tone. I swear, you can tune a piano when they're doing the safety briefing!

Interesting. With all the new planes DL has scheduled for delivery in the upcoming years, I struggle to see why they'd ever pull one of these out of storage.

Delta's pilots are pretty rough on the mad dog. Fortunately no one has been seriously injured (except for PNS but that wasn't pilot error like at LGA (2x) and DTW). If they tear up another MD-88/90 I guess they can pull this spare out of storage.

Curious what determines whether a plane goes to BYH or MZJ. I noticed the 747's headed to MZJ but the MD's are going mostly BYH but one to MZJ.

I'm really curious if the A321's and 737-900's coming in can pick up the slack of all the MD88/MD90's, older A320's, 757's, and 767-300 (domestic version) aircraft leaving? Am I missing something?

The next MD-88, N929DL, is currently en route from ATL>BYH for either storage or part-out and scrap.

In an answer to the earlier question about the decrease from 160 seats to 158 seats on the MD90, it looks like 39A and 39B have been removed based on the outdated seatmap from seatguru. For once, seatguru was actually useful.

I wonder why? It doesn't save them any crew costs. They still need four flight attendants.

There is a mini-gally there now that stores one of the carts (similar to the A320 P2 mods)

Yes there is a huge issue with overhauling them.

The MD90 uses the V2500-D5 engine. The Airbus uses the V2500-A1 or V2500-A5 engine. While they have a high commonalty they are not the same engine. Most MROs around the world have have dropped support for the D5 engine since there is only one operator of the type world wide. Since there is only one vendor now doing the D5 motor, it has caused prices of MRO support to increase dramatically. Also since that one vendor happens to be in Christchurch New Zealand, supply chain costs and transportation costs are also incredibly high. It is much much cheaper for Delta to replace the MD90 with 739s, 321s and 321Ns because all of those motors are in-house and cost on the CFM56-7B, CFM56-5B and PW1000G are lower because there are thousands of them in the world vs less than 150 V2500-D5s.

On top of all of the Pratt would prefer to drop D5 support and focus only on the Airbus motor for obvious reasons.
