Are you also a poker player? Just wondering given your use of "flying donkey" lol. Good luck with the trip!

If you want to offer, call back and ask the agent to process the $799 offer for both of you. May or may not work.
I know for domestic first class offers, this can work (my non status gf got offer, I did not, called and got us both upgraded).

I did try this around midnight last night. Rep was "surprised" my wife received it. When I suggested that I would be more than willing to pay for both of us, she told me there is nothing I can do and computer just randomly selects. Oh well, at least we are in comfort + or - depends on how you look at things.

Be a man! Pay the $799 for your wife to fly in D1! It's not the end of the world if you fly in separate cabins for a 7 hrs flight! Let her have the D1 experience, unless she has already flown it before!

We flew Atl-Ams-Fra on A330 D1. Back on 767. She would not stop complaining about how bad the 767 was after being on the A330. Asked her when it popped up if she wanted it, said she would much rather put that money to good use shopping in Paris when we take the train over from London, then fly in the "coffin class" again. Her words, not mine. First time I was actually happy that Delta offers such a terrible hard product. If it was A330 or triple 7 then I would have been flying with two strangers. Ha

Has more to do with space. There's only so much room on the 767.

Ok, so go have fun on EK.

DL probably offers fewer cheap buy-ups to medallions because they know those are the people most likely to buy the actual fare up-front. They also don't want medallions to get used to seeing such offers, thus rewarding a habit of buying cheap coach fares and relying on the buy-ups to get into the cabin they truly want.

So....you're complaining about not being offered a cheap upgrade to a premium cabin that you don't like/don't want to sit in anyway?

Good lord. This is a WFBF thread if I've ever seen one.

As an aside, even though I am a DL Medallion, I recently started booking all my AF flights on AF ticket stock because I have the impression that they will offer cash upgrades at online check-in, which I have never received for tickets issued on DL stock.

Recently when I flew East Coast to Europe, I received an offer for a $1700 one-way upgrade to La Premiere. I did that on a one time basis as a bucket list experience. It was truly exceptional, given that I flew on a day when I was the only first class passenger on the flight: escort through security who radioed the kitchen for my pre-departure food selection, private pre-departure lounge, private cabin as in a private jet, dedicated stewardess and washroom, one seat for my meals and another made up into a full bed. After takeoff, the stewardess closed the curtain for the opposite aisle and told me all the staff members were instructed to use the other aisle to walk to the front of the plane so that I would not be disturbed in flight. When I transferred to Asia at CDG, the crew made sure I was the first off the plane, someone escorted me in a Mercedes to the La Premiere lounge, checked on my luggage status during my shower and massage layover, and then drove me to my connecting business class flight where the captain greeted me at the plane's door before everyone else boarded. I just felt guilty on the transatlantic flight when they opened the Taittinger Comte de Champagne bottle and all the premium wines, which I wish I could have all taken with me. I was sorry to see the glorious wines sealed before landing after I was the only one to have sampled the selection. I took many pictures and will long remember this wonderful flight. For me, it was well worth a one-time experience. On top of that, I felt great about the fare because my business class ticket on AF roundtrip to Asia plus the one way transatlantic upgrade cost amounted to about the same price as if I had flown Emirates roundtrip in business to the same destination.

Clearly just an opinion......a couple hundred people a day and Delta revenue management clearly think differently.

As for flying Emirates, why would you go to LHR via DXB?

Of course I am. Only on principle though.

My opinion is the only one that matters. If I was in a rush to get to London for business etc, then yes, direct from Atl works, but when flying for leisure I would rather have a nice experience and there are many aviation publications/blogs that agree with my opinion on Delta not even coming close to having the same hard product on international routes as middle eastern airlines. We shall see if the A350 changes this.

AF offers DoD upgrades for all their flights. It doesn't matter who ticketed your tickets. Go into the SC at MSP/ATL/etc and you'll see signs hawking the upgrades.

ATL-LON is 6.75 hours eastbound, about an hour more westbound.

You'd turn a 7 hour flight into 18 hours over hard product? At what amount do you value your time?
