It's a way to get fare class/upgrade/award inventory to AMS and CDG, for example, plus other SkyTeam hubs such as SVO.

I prefer SEA-LHR-CDG over SEA-CDG because of schedule differences. I do not like the schedule of SEA-CDG and avoid it where possible.

This is pretty old news, the plan was originally announced in November of 2013

Tons of griping by VA folks back then about their club getting taken over by DL scum.....

Ok, I'm slightly unclear on this.
I'm a FB plat. If I fly on a DL Y ticket on DL metal out of LHR, will I have access to the VS clubhouse?

No, you won't. VS is not part of SkyTeam, so the lounge reciprocity arrangements (which are more limited than SkyTeam's) apply to DL medallions, not FB elites, and D1 and Upperclass pax. For further details, go to the Clubhouse section of the T&C at the bottom of the following page:

This is great news since I fly DTW/LHR once a year. The VS clubhouse is a lot better than the Skyteam lounge in T4 and I like the arrivals lounge at t-3. It's nice being able to just sleep in flight and skip breakfast and go to the arrivals lounge at T-3 to take a shower and get a hot breakfast.
Seems like it will be a good move financially for Delta as well. They will only have to pay to staff one terminal. And if there is an IROPs situation and they need to reroute people it will be a lot easier having all flights going out of one location.

Nothing on VA yet, but VS and VA have very little relation to one another, and Delta owns a much smaller share of VA than they do of VS, so it is not surprising that the situation there is different.
