Checked Broken Suitcase: It Was Returned Fixed!

Yesterday, I checked a suitcase I don't ordinarily check. For over a year, this suitcase has been missing a small screw in the handle, which made the handle jiggle. In my mind, while checking the bag in, I was cursing myself out for not having taken care of it yet. When it came out on the carrousel in ATL, it had mysteriously had a screw put in the handle! Awesome. As much as people complain about suitcases being damaged, just though I'd share that DL actually returned my broken suitcase fixed.

And, Dave, you'll be glad to know the suitcase was checking in at PIT!

I was actually a couple hours away. Flew into SCE, but flying out there was a $400 price difference, so I drove to PIT, figuring on a Sunday morning the traffic wouldn't be bad. During the week, though, with the 376 construction, I try to avoid PIT.

We were in SCE last week, flew in & out of MDT to avoid having to connect in DTW. Fortunately we cruised right through the construction on 322...at 4 am even on a weekday it's not bad. And there were plenty of opportunities for my husband to indulge in his somewhat rabid obsession w Sheetz.

We've got a couple of suitcases that need fixing, maybe on our next trip up there we'll route via PIT.

I've heard of airlines rotating aircraft through certain stations to be cleaned well, in particular PMNW planes through NRT, but this is the first I've heard of passengers routing so that their checked luggage is repaired. [Do people do something like this with hotels that still offer free shoe shines?]

Your husband and I share the rabid Sheetz obsession, for similar reasons. But next time you are in the area, if you have a chance, Mamie's in Martinsburg is my new favorite breakfast place in the world. Period.

BTW, several people have told me Sheetz is coming to GA. Supposedly there are employees in GA doing the initial work. MTO, Gardner's Peanut Butter Meltaways and Boyer's Mallo Cups may be here soon.

To me, Sheetz is boring, although some of their larger more suburban stores, are quite nice.

I guess I hava similar obsession with Wawa in the Philly / MD / DE metro area, although I rarely get there these daiz.

That would be awesome! We've found them as far south as North Carolina but would welcome one closer.

Just as long as it wasn't a case of they fixed the suitcase, but they put somebody else's name on it and stuff inside of it.

Wow. Is baggage repair another perk of being Diamond?

As a lowly Platinum, my bag came out at ATL with one screw missing. Hey....wait a minute.

Just kidding, of course. Kudos to the baggage handler who took the initiative. Maybe you can share your story with Delta News Hub or Atlanta ACS.

On Flyertalk we often complain a lot about dumb things, but to be honest Delta does have many employees who really care.
