Not correct. See this, in reference to Economy Comfort seat pricing, from the Delta website:

FREE for Diamond/ Platinum/ Gold Medallion, and Y, B & M fares

50% OFF for Silver Medallion or free for Silver Medallion within the check-in window

This is for DL domestic flights. Golds pay a discounted price for EC on international segments in general--Canada, etc. might be exceptions.

Fair, but EC is still free for Y/B/M on ALL Delta flights, including Int'l:

FREE for Diamond/ Platinum Medallion, and Y, B & M fares

50% OFF for Gold Medallion

25% OFF for Silver Medallion

Adding onto the above, my guess would be Delta Implements Comfort Plus (or whatever they call their Premium Economy cabin) as follows:

Y/B/M = Premium Economy, with normal fare restrictions
W = Premium Economy code shares for partner-marketed, and possibly discounted premium Economy on Delta.

Thank you! I'd still recommend one buy X and pay for EC if one isn't PM/DM vs buying an MBY fare.

Generally, I agree with a few exceptions:
  • If you'd like to earn extra MQMs
  • If you'd like to upgrade to BE (with miles) or FC (higher priority)
  • If you'd like a flexible/refundable fare

My main point in mentioning that Y/B/M fares are premium economy fares is that IF Delta's hypothetical new dedicated mid-cabin replaces the current Economy Comfort on int'l flights, the int'l upgrade situation does not change at all. You'd still need Y/B/M, which would be their new Premium Economy product.

Can someone please clarify what the MQM earning rate means? Say a KL ticketed and operated flight ORD-AMS with a V fare is about 4100 miles. Base miles is 25%. Will I earn 25% of those 4100 miles in MQMs or will I earn the full 4100 miles as in 100%?

For a V fare, you would earn 25% RDM (redeemable miles) and 100% MQMs. The devaluation of the RDMs is to approximately align with Delta's change to awarding RDMs on their flights by dollars spent rather than miles flown. I'd recommend booking the Delta-marketed flight if it's a code share — otherwise you will not accrue MQDs towards status requirements.

IME, DL W maps exclusively to the cheapest W bucket (eg: A on AF), sort of the same way you need low inventory to book a partner award. You can check this out pretty easily by mock booking on dl.com and then the partner website. You'll usually get many more (expensive) options on the partner.

My first reaction is that Delta One sounds more like a FC product. This could be a big hassle for business travelers who are permitted business class on certain trips but not IFC.

ADDED upon looking at the press release: JFK-SEA isn't listed with JFK-LAX and JFK-SFO as a Delta One route. I wonder whether this is a step back from the attempt to sell JFK-SEA as BE or is just a mistake.

Also, goodbye to BusinessElite on JFK-SEA, though in reality it barely existed anyway.
