Probability of getting a flight change to different day, based on a changed schedule?
I am flying ICN-DTW-YYZ Oct 1. They recently changed my flight from ICN-DTW 12:25AM to 10:25AM. I don't want to have to go to the airport so early as I have a lot of things to do before I leave. I will call and ask to change to a later time or next day, however I want to know the probability that I can change to EVEN LATER than that...a few more days or a week or more, at no penalty and fare difference. Is this unheard of? I mean I will ask nicely anyways, but just wanted to see if its happened before.
Thanks.
BTW I got my ticket dirt cheap on a price error, will that affect anything?
I already changed one portion of my trip due to one of their schedule changes because the connection time was too short for me to be comfortable with.
Thanks

If you got it on an error fare, be careful. They may use any slip up you make to charge you a changed, regular fare. Proceed with caution.

next day is a no-brainer ... more is unlikely. Don't think the fare paid matters too much here although they may be more accommodating if you paid thousands for it.

Agreed. They may be supportive of the next day change and offer a refund if that doesn't work for you. That would seem like a fair approach in my mind... so, be careful how you push for a change further into the future.

I think the later ICN DTW flight is the next day.
If you have bought a mistake fare be prepare for the "no available seat on your suggested option" leaving you take the flight or get a refund.

For explanation purposes let's use the original flight and date of travel being: 12.25am on August 20th.
The Delta Schedule Change has resulted in your flight now departing at 10.25am on Aug 19.
Your best bet is to call and ask for a change to the next day Aug 20th ... anyway you were scheduled to travel originally at 12.25am on Aug 20th and DL's schedule change has changed your travel to 10.25am Aug 19th ....the day before.
For many travelers that is not a problem ... for some it could be a huge problem as it causes one not to have enough time to complete work that had been planned on Aug 19th.
You should call and ask to be put back on a departure date of Aug 20th, as that was the day planned for your travel. Delta should do this at no additional cost, irrespective of the original fare paid.
Now where this gets complicated is when Delta/ SkyTeam partners do not have a daily service to that city/ airport, they may have a thrice weekly or a five times a week scheduled. Then one may have to be stay extra days just to catch the flight on the 1st possible 'next' day.

I'm sorry, I was mistaken on my time changes. It wrote AM for both but my flight was changed from 12:25PM to 10:25AM, so only two hours difference and same day. Not a HUGE difference but I have a very hectic schedule right before I fly and don't like such early morning flights.

On a more expensive ticket, there could be changes that would avoid early morning, such as taking a KE flight to NRT and connecting there or even using KE/CZ/MU to go through PVG or PEK, but you're unlikely to be rebooked onto another carrier.

I inquired about extending it further and the agent offered to waive the change fee, however I would still have to pay the difference in fare. Considering my fare was something like $30 round trip, I quickly said no!
Do other airlines change flight schedules as much as Delta does? I flew delta last year and was changed flight schedules twice also. I've never been changed on any other flights in my life, only the two times I've flown delta (two changes each time)
Thanks guys

Not the same dates but within a month or so. I usually fly to asia once a year. Sorry I didn't mean to sound ungrateful, I'm happy they honored the price, but if I can find something that fits my schedule better I'll at least ask.

What if your original flight is outright cancelled as a part of a schedule change?
I'm waiting for my nov. 4 HKG - NRT flight to get cancelled as a part of Delta's Asia/Pacific changes. I suspect I will be re-booked to HKG-SEA or KE on Nov 4, but would actually like to come back on Nov 2nd and possibly Nov 1st. Would they be flexible?

No harm trying and asking to be rescheduled for Nov 1 or 2 when you call in to get the schedule change fixed. You must have the exact flights you want to travel on ... to make the work easy for the Customer Service Phone rep.
