Still yet I have heard it from a pass riding employee that is the way it should
work - the paying customer (of any rank) would be offered the choice first
followed by last minute upgrades and then employees and they have a
pecking order with company business - vacation - weekenders and at the
bottom the buddies and off line employees.
It is a wasteful enterprise to cater 12 hot meals and 12 cold meals for 12
seats in an aircraft that is overkill but I bet the F/A crew would like it !

It is a very nice touch for the crew to acknowledge the DM's and offer more
personalized service. I remember back in the late 60's when some airlines
would make individual name cards and pin them the seats of the First Class
customers (note First Class seat selection was available when making a
reservation the coach folks had to wait till they got to bag check-in and
select a seat off of a mock aircraft configuration. Late check-ins always
got what they deserved the very last seats - and like today some seats
were held back to accommodate irregularities and DYKWIA vips).
Nothing much changed except the seat chart has gone to a web site with
Emergency Exit and Bulkhead rows restricted and seats in the front of coach
having a small (large) fee attached for so called comfort seating !
Crazy the trend is to eliminate First Class replacing it with Business class
and coach creating a so called creature comfort section in the front of the
coach cabin. 3 class service.
I liked it best when United had the Carvelle aircraft with all First Class seating.
The Original Midway airlines was like that with 2 and 2 coach seating.
Big problem they had to fill the aircraft with all revenue to make a go of it !

The goofiness of the system the fares were regulated by Uncle Sam (CAB)
and the advertised fare was what you paid. Now the airlines want to return
to the advertised fare without taxes fees etc. and this reminds me of the
commercial "What's in your wallet"? Without a definite posted advertised
fare the airline could empty your wallet - lets see we have this fee - you
only have $10 left in your wallet well that is fee necessary for this very low
unadvertised fare to be valid. Congress should be lynched for letting this
pass ! And when commuting back to their home state the least meager
coach seat on an aircraft; bus or commuter rail is what they should be
required to take for reimbursable expenses. No perks for making dumb decisions !

I better get off the soapbox - the government men in white coats are coming
again all this because I wanted a hot meal in First Class and they have run out !
I guess I ain't got no status !
Cubic Zirconia or Tanzanite is not a real class !

Without wanting to start the debate that the OP mentioned, what is the peanut allergy lie by unethical pax? Why would a pax make that up? Is there some special treatment they are receiving by doing so?

I'm sure I missed it along the way

Perhaps in the past the unethical peanut allergy pax has found a way to get
some favorable treatment like an upgrade to economy comfort or even to the
front cabin.
But it would appear that it did not work here although it did restrict the
snack service by removing peanuts from the menu.
Might have been harder to fathom as an adult but using his child as a scapegoat
is a low blow even more so embarrassing the child - AND -
the unmitigating gall when the child questioned her father about the issue !
Persons traveling with special needs or circumstances should have their
reservation records noting the need and not stumble up to the gate at the
last moment upsetting other customers seating arrangements and if peanuts
were the only snack available then the flight would not have a snack service.

Bingo. Just like the miracle flights, it makes like more difficult for people who actually do need extra consideration/services.

I wouldn't do it, but CAN an airline prevent a customer from eating peanuts on board? Wouldn't this be more a matter of common courtesy rather than law or regulation? Do the rules regarding obeying the crew ON SAFETY MATTERS allow for punishment if a passenger were to eat his/her own peanuts? What about Peanut M&Ms? What would be the crime (not obeying crew instructions?) and what punishment (Federal prison?)? I can't see the passenger in this case gaining anything other than, maybe, sympathy.
