I also used this MIA - LGA last Sunday from EC on the MD88. I had downloaded the Gogo Video App for my iPad. I didn't update my FlyDelta app so I couldn't use that one. As everyone has mentioned, there's a price and then below that, there's a link for F/EC passengers. No lag at all for the movie... it was just like loading up Netflix.
I think Delta is using Gogo internet to validate but the actual movie content is on board using USB drives that duplicates the movies onto an on-board hard drive that Gogo developed. Engadget had a pretty neat article on it a few days ago but it was about United's new 737-900. Southwest doesn't use Gogo and instead uses a satellite system that has more bandwidth which probably allows them to beam up live TV onto the plane. I haven't flown Southwest in ages so I can't really speak to what they do but technology wise, it's different from Gogo's wireless internet system. Anyway, still a great job from Delta for those flights like MIA-LGA on a MD88. A short movie just makes the time pass by really quick! |
Delta Studio
Was my understanding that live TV was supposed to be an option. Is that not the case?

Anyway, still a great job from Delta for those flights like MIA-LGA on a MD88. A short movie just makes the time pass by really quick! It worked great on my iPad. I was very pleased with how my trip with them went. (I paid a little extra for early-bird boarding so I got on in plenty of time to pick as good of a seat as I could have gotten on one of the Big Three, barring a first class upgrade.) As a Delta hub captive, I have had extensive experience with their free tv on in-seat video equipped flights and I liked using my iPad better. Plus Southwest had a better selection of channels. And the Southwest free snacks are better than the Delta free snacks. I flew Southwest (for the first time in my life) in June. I got an e-mail from them prior to the flight letting me know that my flight would be equipped with the inflight live tv, and that I should download an app ahead of time if I wanted to partake.

Any idea if this will work with the Nook?

Delta Studio
Has anyone been able to use Delta Studio yet? How can you tell if it is on your flight?

I think it is supposed to be available on all wifi equipped aircraft. |
A couple of times the movie I have selected won't play and just keeps buffering. This only happens with some content...other pieces will play just fine. Any tricks/tips to get around a stalled movie due to buffering?

I love it.

Oh good, you have to install something. That leaves out my work computer, since my wonderful employer has it completely locked down. :)

Anyone know the new movie selections for September (assuming they refresh the first of the month)? Mrs. the_bob123 and I watched "Her," "Lone Survivor," and "300: Rise of an Empire" (okay maybe those last two were mine) on a recent set of flights from MCO.
|
They're listed on delta.dumb somewhere. I saw the list when I was looking for directions about what to download.
A quick glance indicated that the list looked very similar to the seat back screen list for my domestic. 767 flight. It's also printed in the back of Sky magazine. I remember Chef, Locke, Bears, Joe, and Amazing Spider Man 2. |
