Requalification Question
Flyertalk - I'm hoping you can help me with my current situation. I'm DM and have 120,000 MQMs YTD. I've got the following questions:
1) If I have no additional activity, I'd end up Platinum for next year. Would I still rollover the 45K MQMs to next year even if I'm DM this year and would only be Plat next year?
2) I have the Plat Delta AMEX. I've spent around 23K YTD. If I spend 2K on x-mas gifts before the end of the year will the 10K MQMs show up on this year or in January and add on to any roll-over (see question #1)?
Although I'm planning a few long BE flights to Europe and Asia early next year, I don't anticipate I'll be as consistent flying next year...hence why I was thinking it would be better to roll-over 45K and get two years at Plat instead of one year at Diamond and a second year at Silver...
Thoughts/Suggestions?

1. You will rollover 45k MQMs.
2. Your 10k MQMs from spending $25k in 2013 would be 2013 MQMs, which would give you 130k MQMs and only 5k rollover.
3. Based on your projected travel, you're better off rolling over 45k MQMs. Also, remember, because of MQDs that begin in 2014, you will have to meet the MQD spending requirement with DL, OR make sure you spend at least $25k on your DL AMEX Plat. in 2014 to keep any Medallion status in 2015.

For your issue number 2, I think it depends on when your closing date is. If your statement is already closed for December, then any additional spending after the closing date would not post miles (I think) until your January statement date, thus making them be added to your rollover. For example, my statement closing date is Dec. 24, so I made sure to hit my last threshold on Dec. 23 last year to ensure the miles posted in 2012. Of course, I could be wrong and any spending after closing date could just get reset to zero on Dec. 31.

Suggest that you consider to requalify as DM, so let those 10k MQMs go into your account in 2013.
As DM in 2014 there will be more benefits that as PM.
Just my opinion!

Spending thresholds are based on the calendar year, not posting date. If you hit the spend threshold in the calendar year, the MQM's will post and count towards 2013 totals regardless of when the statement closes or when your payment is due. They will retroactively add the miles back towards 2013, bump your status, and adjust your rollover down to 5K.
FYI they actually backdate the transaction so it will be as if you hit DM on the 31st, BUT the system just will not reflect that, until after your statement posts.

My statement closes on the 3rd. So you will see that the miles for that month posted on the 4th, but the bonus is backdated to the 12-31. Then, on the 6th, the rollover occurred, backdated to 1-1.
