Bulkhead Row

I hate them.

I ALWAYS book the row right behind the bulkhead and for some strange reason I figured that since everyone talks about how great they are that I would try one as it has been a few years since I have sat in one.

So, as I am sitting here in 10A on a 737 JFK-PHX I am pretty much not understanding why people always talk about how awesome they are.

So....extra legroom? Not a chance. I am 5'11" but have fairly long legs and I have a lot less room in this silly row with them all at a 90-degree angle with no room to move.

I also hate the tray in the armrest. I like that little space underneath; furthermore, if you get lucky with no middle passenger you can raise a regular armrest and have some extra room. I'm only 170lbs and I don't even come close to filling the entire 17.2" seat width but still!!! LoL

Oh yeah...and my laptop bag thingy...??? That has to go above for takeoff....so I was sitting here twiddling my thumbs waiting to get to cruising altitude so I can get my laptop out. We were like number 12 for take-off sooo....yeah.....lol

I don't really complain much about anything with flying. I love it so much. I actually am my final leg on a same-day-turn MR to PHX-JFK-SJU-JFK-PHX and even got upgraded on 2 of the 4 flights as a lowwwwwwly Gold...

I just now found remembered why it is that I always hated the bulkhead row so much!

Am I the ONLY person on this forum who PREFERS the other EC row except the silly bulkhead row?

If you "ALWAYS book the row right behind the bulkhead" and you were paying attention, you already know the bulkhead row on the 737-800 is cramped and the bulkhead on A319/A320 is a sweet ride.

Stop being silly... and hating.

You definitely need to know the aircraft you're flying on. I tend to be on A319/A320, MD88/MD90, and two-cabin RJs. These all have no physical wall in the first row of Y, so it's better than the second row of EC.

I've been on terrible bulkhead rows (including F) and good ones.

On some 737s the aisle bulkhead seats are great but thee others are awful for leg room.

The OH space is always a concern and unfortunately I need to be somewhat of a gate louse to make sure I don't have to check my single carry-on.

the 757-200 Row 19 & 20 (port side) bulkheads have super leg room.

Seatguru is USUALLY good but has given me very bad intel one time too.

yes, know your planes....

Can't be an expert on everything.

But....I have also commented that I do not like exit row seats either.

Too cold....too hard...some don't recline or have limited recline...don't like the unmovable armrests....

I am actually quite happy with Delta's regular EC seats.

All depends on the plane.

Try 10D on an MD-88 and come back here to tell us bulkheads suck.

I actually prefer seats with tray tables in the armrest. Makes it very easy to lean away without disturbing your neighbor on the other side with your hip (such as while sleeping in a window seat).
