True story. I was connecting in DTW after flying from Amsterdam. I somehow lost my boarding pass which was in my back pocket. Asked for a new one and got on the plane towards the end of boarding. My seat 1C was occupied. I asked the FA and she looked at the guys boarding pass....IT was mine, the one I lost. After a check of IDs he was escorted off of the plane. Amazing he thought that might work!!

Wow. That is just amazing. Haven't seen many flights go out without F full but the ones I have seen, its only like 4 of us up front.

For the last couple years, my partner was an AS MVP and I had no Delta status. Several times, she got upgraded, which left me in back (as MVPs can't upgrade companions even on the same, paid PNR) with several empty seats up front. She would mention this to the FA; the usual response was to invite me up to sit with her after the "meal" service finished. I grew to look forward to a FA addressing me as "Mr. [partner's last name]".

These were all short flights, MSN-DTW-east coast at off peak times.

I certainly never plunked myself down in an empty seat in F without asking, though my partner does occasionally insist that I take her F seat from the beginning; she's very short and can sleep just as well in a coach seat as in F.

I was stoked to be in 4B (the last row of a 738) with no seat mate on the late evening flight JFK-SAN, a long flight. The gate agent had been pushing upgrades-for-sale before boarding, and with the app I knew I still had no seat mate. Boarding was hectic so I moved to 4A during boarding so as not to get bumped by passing pax.

Sure enough the last pax plops down in 4B and I ask him if I am in his seat, to which he replies no and starts unpacking his stuff. During a long taxi he explains how the upgrade was a rip off and he just sat down. I explained how I was looking forward to having the peace of no seat mate and he asks me not to rat him out. He proceeded to get drunk and talk to everyone in first class. I didn't alert the FA but in hindsight I wish I had.

Several weeks ago I was a culprit on this move

My seat was G6, the gate was G2. and I had not slept in a day. While relaxing in the wrong seat, the real G2 strolls in.

Realizing my mistake. I quietly grab my stuff (including a PDB) and move. But to make matters worse, this was the Airbus config where the BE cabin is divided in 2. So he just sees me walk back (and not see me grab my correct BE seat).

A few hours later I am walking around the cabin and he gives me the evil eye. Thought it best to explain what happened and have a laugh on myself.

How does "FO" equate to Silver Medallion?

I have no idea. But, for some reason that is what people on the DL forum call it.

There are threads on this but essentially Silver Medallion - SM and Sky Miles -SM would be confusing so they reverted back to "Flying Orchid." See attached blog from the DELTA website:

FO = 'flies often', as not to get confused with Flying Orchid in the past. Certain posters have alternative ideas of what FO means to DL in the modern context, but I choose not to mention them.

Above poster is correct that SM would get confusing (mixed up with SkyMiles...)

I wont argue with "Flies Often" as another definition of FO. (Thomas Hudson's Bag Carriers might be yet another.) and yes there are many others - most not very complimentary- but I still think "Flying Orchid" is the accepted definition. Perhaps we can get a Mod to rule on this one......

You must mean 2G and 6G, which are similar seat numbers. In my case, it was an A window seat on the left versus an E middle seat on the right; IIRC this was a 757 or something similar with a single aisle. Also, there are a lot of rows between 2 and 29, with very obviously different cabins.

I was traveling with my work assistant form IAD-ATL and didn't get the companion upgrade, so I gave my F seat to my assistant. I went back to Y to enjoy the exit row. Last guy walking on the plane looks at me dead in the eye and starting yelling at me that I'm in his seat, ..., ect.... Grabs a flight attendant before I can even say anything. She comes and looks at our boarding passes, which both have the same seat, then say's (to me) "Please follow me upfront sir. We're going to upgrade you." Oh the look on the guys face made it all worth it.

I'm assuming he was a last ditch standby for the flight, and the GA hadn't had time to come upgrade me yet, or forgot; but meant to and reassign him my Y seat. But hopefully he learned not to yell and accuse people irrationally not understanding how UG work.

I looked up the definitive thread (under the FAQ sticky), and it looks like there isn't a definitive answer. Robert Leach claims the definition that I take, and some mods (Cholula/Carnasie) believe the Flying Orchid story (as shown in the first post)

What is an FO?

Flying NAS-LGA last month on a DC9, we have 1C & 1D. Companion was off shopping when the pre-boarding process started. I went to get her, then she makes a stop in the lav. FC boarding lasts all of 30 seconds, and GA calls for Zone Sky before I've had a chance to board. No breezeway at the DL gates in NAS, so I get to the back of the line, and when I make it on, I see someone has placed a book and a magazine in 1C and there is a rollaboard above 1C & 1D. I informed the FA, and then a pax comes from Y and grabs his book and magazine, leaving the rollaboard in FC. Are some people just that rude that if you missed your UG, you're still going to act like you are seated in FC?
