Additionally,
Now that March is here and I don't see a significant change in my upgrades I now must assume that below 30% upgrades on my routes is the new norm. So I must rethink my strategy. With my loyalty with DL I get to ride in F 30% of the time, get to pick exit row or aisle seats near the front of F, get a direct line to the DL diamond line, get to SDC (but I can no longer cancel award trips T72 which is a big deal for me), I get wifi on every flight, and personal tv's on some - I get lounge access (but again without edible food so what -if you're getting fed in F on the flight you don't need food but now that I don't get fed I must eat before my long flights) Most of these are real benefits and I don't discount that - but last year when my upgrades were 85% and I could cancel T72 it was an unbeatable package - now it makes sense to shop for the best itinerary and the best price. They knew that their changes would force some to move their business around. Unfortunately for me, these new policy changes affect me directly/significantly. |

That's crazy, what routes are you flying and when? As a point of comparison, I'm standing at 14 for 16 out of LGA and JFK this year and the two missed were an ATL>AUS leg before SXSW and an LAX>JFK flight the monday morning after the oscars...in both cases, I wasn't expecting an upgrade. Otherwise, no dropped %'s on my end...and this is on tough routes like JFK>SFO/JFK>LAX (where I'm already 5 for 6 in 2012)...on not terribly high fares either. ::shrugs:: |
most often JFK-SLC

Me, too. But tread lightly... it's likely there's a wife/girlfriend/boyfriend who might take issue with such a bold advance! :D

yep, this pretty much sums it up. Don't clear ANY upgrades at the window... instead try to sell $50 bumps from M fares on the web site. This is not a good way to take care of your ham sandwiches.....

Are there any businesses in this country whose travel policies permit paid F on domestic flights? I doubt it, unless Y is completely sold out. The only business travelers who could buy this ticket would be self-employed business travelers. Non-transcon Domestic F exists for two primary reasons: 1. Connecting flights where an international business class ticket has been purchased (permitted by some corporate travel policies; and 2. Frequent flyer upgrades.

The gas station does not give discounts, but unlike the airlines they do not advertise/proclaim that they give discounts or a free upgrade to higher quality gas at the low quality gas price. What is so hard to understand about that?

If your line of reasoning held any promise the people in this forum who find reasons to complain with every trip (and elements: booking, check in, boarding, flight service, luggage delivery), yet still fly Delta four years later should have been long gone.
Worse than the crowd the lacks the intellectual capacity or work ethic to conduct an analysis of the best airline and FF program to meet their needs is the crowd that recognizes Delta is the best they can do yet still comes here regularly to complain. David |
