Ultimately, it all depends on what you think is a reasonable amount of money to spend. If you're a millionaire, I imagine $500 is nothing and you might as well spend it (though I'd wonder why you're not flying F in the first place :p).
On the other hand, if $200 is the difference between making your mortgage payment, I wouldn't recommend taking any FCM offer. The rough guidance I've seen on these parts it's that <$1/minute is reasonable to pay for a FCM offer - make sure you check the fare difference between your ticket price and just buying F outright, it's not guaranteed to be a good deal. |

I'm not a millionaire lol but I thought $150 was a fair offer so I bit, plus I could use the extra MQM. Cheers

Have a FCM offer of $259 on a 737-900 ATL-SFO on a pretty cheap X fare ($379 R/T PBI-SFO).
15 of 20 FC seats left on the seat map but o RUC space of course when I called. Tuesday flight landing late. |
FWIW on the new page about earning MQMs (and lordy I hate the new site design):
https://www.delta.com/content/www/en...o-qualify.html "Purchased upgrades are eligible for bonus MQMs based on the class of service flown." This does not distinguish between pre-checkin FCM and OLCI offers, which should make for some interesting post-flight CS conversations. |

ability to SDC away from that 739 without worrying about X inventory is a good thing ...
There will be no escaping the 739. |

I have an itinerary I'd like to snag a FCM offer on, but when I got to "review and pay" the only way to pay is in cash. I thought they had updated this so I could pay with miles? Is that doable over the phone?

Right, the hold music definitely states you can pay with miles for "cabin upgrades"

I had an interesting offer on MSP-SEA last week. Well, there was no "offer" visible, but I called a few days out to see if the agent could see one. Sure enough, she quoted $176 for X->P fare. I asked to pay in 17,600 miles and she said it wasn't possible, then put me on hold, came back and quoted 20,000. I pointed out that I was simply wanting to use my miles at the 1 CPM value that DL advertises online and between the hold music. After another brief hold, she was able to get me upgraded for just 15,000 miles based on making an "adjustment to the buckets" on her side. Weird upgrade, but I wasn't about to complain. ^
The agent likely either created/applied a $26 voucher to your upgrade, or overrode one of the fare buckets from the P price to a A or G price, lowering the price...because you were charged $100-$150 for the upgrade, hence why they only collected 15K miles. I have had a Supervisor once create a voucher to fix upgrade pricing because it was the simplest path forward. |
If I buy up to first class on a domestic flight, will I also receive the domestic baggage allowance for the flight? Or just the seat?

https://www.delta.com/content/www/en...nd-more.html#a with the heading "Upgrade with Miles (Upgrade While You're Booking)" and the bullet point "Upgrade with Miles is only available during an original booking at delta.com" Does the hold music explicitly say 1 cpm though? I forget the exact wording (usually don't pay much attention to it, due to doing much more extremely important things while on hold like reading FT :p) I took a random stab at archive.org and the "only at booking" language seems to have been there for a while https://web.archive.org/web/20170423...ith-miles.html There is of course also the "Mileage Upgrade Award" with the confusingly similar name, which is using the hidden chart to upgrade into RY/OY. If the hold music wording is generic enough maybe it could be argued to refer to this. Or just that the hold music is accurate but incomplete if there is a ubiquitous "terms and conditions apply" |
Just had my first experience with Virgin Australia's on-line UG auction.
Gotta wonder how long it will be before we see this on DL. |
