Also, there is a "prior year MQM" counter. It is possible they will never show the extra MQM in your current year, but just up your status based on comparing your current year MQM to the excess amount in your prior year MQM.

When Do Rollover MQMs Post?
Was wondering if anyone has heard any scuttlebutt about when rollover miles from 2009 will be posted to our DM accounts. I'm assuming by the way marketing had been positioned around this that our excess 2009 miles will post to 2010 and this is not something that would begin in 2010 with rollovers occurring in Jan, 2011.

The MQMs will be deposited into members' accounts in early 2010 to add to the 2010 MQM balances for 2011 qualification.

Most people have said by mid-January.

I am not sure who "most people" are but I would not expect them before March 1, 2010 when the DM program is also instituted. Seems like a logical time to do it, since people have their 2008 status through Feb 2010 and anyone with 2009 status has it through then as well.

The reason for March 1 year for status is to help post all eligible transactions.
This includes flown miles, and miles on partner airlines
Don't forget the MQMs from cards. That adds another layer.
If you had an amex reserve and spent 60k in the last day of December, but your statement closed on the 29th, then this would post only on 29th Jan at the earliest. Then if you choose to gift them you could have 3 more months to do it.
I am not sure if the rollover process will finish by Jan (though it may start displaying by then)
