Checking Bags Through

I need some advice, and cannot find anything on Delta's website. I have two reservations on the same day, a total of 4 segments all on Delta. Will I be able to check a bag at the first airport and have it check all the way through to my final destination? Also, will I only be charged one checked bag fee (since I do not have status)?

The other possibility is meeting someone at the halfway point (where the reservations meet up) and getting the bag there and checking it there. I am worried however about schedule delays, as this would add time to the process of exiting security, checking the bag, and reclearing security.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

They should check your bag all the way through, just make sure you tell the TA that when you check in and check the baggage tags BEFORE you let that bag go.

TA? Ticketing Agent? Terminal Agent?

Anyway, I agree with MR_MAMA. I generally book using the multi-stop to get the exact flights I want, so I have to do this alot. Makes checking in at the Kiosk nearly impossible, but it makes it much nicer in the end.

And, my last 2 flights with 4 flights in one day had my bags arrive on time and in one piece. A nice job by Delta.

+1 And it will help the TA if you give her/him a printed copy of your itinerary, especially the 2nd PNR, so that s/he can refer to it while entering the information for checking your bag. Should only be one bag fee.

Thanks for the advice. I called Delta yesterday to link up the reservations, and the nice lady on the other side (I forgot to get her name, should of so I could of sent a good message to her supervisor, very nice and helpful on the general Delta reservation line) and she said the same thing.

Checking bags through an overnight layover

Ok -- let me add a step of difficulty.

I'm flying DCA-ATL on Christmas Eve (arriving around 7pm), and then ATL-PVR at 9:45am on Christmas Day. Can I just check my bags through and bring a change of clothes in my carryon so I don't have to deal with bag checking madness on Christmas morning? I've been to ATL on Christmas morning. Yikes.

Any additional complication because it's international?

Thoughts from the more-traveled-than-I?
