Checking bags through an overnight layover
Ok -- let me add a step of difficulty.

I'm flying DCA-ATL on Christmas Eve (arriving around 7pm), and then ATL-PVR at 9:45am on Christmas Day. Can I just check my bags through and bring a change of clothes in my carryon so I don't have to deal with bag checking madness on Christmas morning? I've been to ATL on Christmas morning. Yikes.

Any additional complication because it's international?

Thoughts from the more-traveled-than-I?
