Delta Sky Priority as it is Today?

Hi all, I have read several threads about Delta's "Sky Priority" from when it was first introduced, and when they made the boarding changes, and I am just wondering if any frequent flyers, or any other FTer that has used it or has experience with it has a current opinion, as it has been in effect for a while now?

I appreciate your opinions,

Tyler

As a PM I have found the program to be almost exactly like the previous one, with the exception that they board those "needing a little extra time and with small children" first. On one-class flights Zone 1 goes first, etc. On flights with FC, FC board before Zone 1. I really cannot tell any difference from the original program, except for the old folks (that is me now) and kids getting on first.

No difference except for the priority tags on checked baggage and the Have One On Us coupons, sometimes.

I would agree with that, but only being 20 myself, I don't get to use the pre boarding, but I have no problem waiting for F/J to board, or even Zone 1, as I am currently a Platinum Medallion as of today, apparently.

Have you used the priority bag tags? I have heard it isn't exactly priority, and I have only used the priority once, as I don't usually check bags.

With the Sky Priority bag tags - have had our bags come out within the 1st few minutes ... maybe within the 1st 10 bags on the conveyor belt.
Sky Priority is btter than the system that Delta was using earlier this year.
The 'have one on us' coupon is nice - rather get my upgrades to 1st on US domestic flights. My success rate on Upgrades even though I am Platinum is poor!

I have checked bags with priority tags twice now, at PHL my families' bags were the first three off the belt :D At ABE, a very small airport, my tagged bag was middle of the pack ( arriving on a CRJ200 ). Not sure that Pinnacle or whoever operated that flight knew what to do with them. All my other flights since Sky Priority were carry-ons only.

That sounds way better than it used to be... As for the complimentary upgrades, I feel your pain. Hopefully, once hitting Million Miler Status with DL, that will improve my chances...

Well, on a CRJ200 there aren't that many bags to begin with (one would assume). But I am glad to hear that Sky Priority is benefiting the People it is supposed to, for the most part. I will have a chance to try out the SP bag tags on my Million Miler Qualifying flight on July 4th! so I will be sure to post the results here.

What is going on with the coupons now? Last time I flew without an upgrade I could a useless coupon t some landside wine bar at dca. Worthless as it was for a free appetizer and I already have a skyclub membership.

There was an extensive thread on experiences with the priority bag tags < 3 months ago.

I believe I saw that thread, but this is for anything in the Sky Priority program, as they have just officially changed the boarding process effective 6/1/10. I would also love to hear about any other experiences, as far as SP check in lanes, Security lanes, or anything else that people have used recently, to see how it is being used systemwide. And as I recall, most SP threads that are more than a month old are mostly junk replies, or people complaining about "Silvers getting the middle finger" and so on.

Though to clarify, I am not saying this about your thread, but just in general about several SP threads, and nearly all other threads, more than 1-2 months old.

Depends on the airport. I fly a lot from PHL-SJC. In SJC they work very well the 2 times that i have used them. the first 10 bags off the belt had the priority tags.

In PHL.... not. Bags that had standby tags were coming out way ahead of the first priority tagged bag.

Dont hold your breath ... I am 1.5 million miles with NWA/ DL ... been Platinum since 1994 ... used to enjoy an almost 100% upgrade rate ... now am at 20% upgrade, and with Delta AMEX Reserve.

Too many DM's and PM's and Delta's policy of upgrading even FO's with higher fares ... enuff said ...

I have only seen the revised SP boarding 1 of 8 since 6/1 when boarding changes were supposed to be in effect. 4 of those are ATL departures. On 6/11 in T concourse the GA did no announcements - they were all automated paging announcement and it boarded zone one announcing F PAX last using original SP process.

So as far as I am concerned nothing has changed since SP was first put into effect.

That is disappointing... If I ever experience that as a Million Miler, I will be sure to write Delta, and inform them of my experiences... I think that in airports that serve several Million Milers they should have a MM desk for any problems and checking in etc... maybe in ATL, JFK, or HNL? not sure of the amount of MM that fly through HNL, though there are a lot of DM out there.

That is not good to hear... I am hoping that as this program grows (with age) there will be more streamlining across the system.

Also, does anyone know what SP is like overseas?
