Using a WP628 E-Cert Post-SM Merger

Hi all, just came across an unused WP628 certificate as I was doing some house cleaning. It was issued on Feb 27, 2008 and supposedly valid for 12 months. The online nwa.com search engine doesn't take the e-cert code--does anyone know whether or not they're still honoring this when called-in?

What is (or was) a WP628 cert??

I suspect the only way you'll be able to find out what you can do with the cert is to call in (and get a former NWA agent; I expect Delta agents will be relatively clueless with NWA certs).

Anyone remember NWA's old zone coupons? I really miss those sometimes.

Just a heads up for anyone with WP628 e-certs.

After trying to book a ticket with one tonight, a NW gold desk rep checked with her manager and let me know the WP628s turned into pumpkins on October 31, 2009.

This cancellation is a little shady, especially since the face of the document states that the cert's valid if redeemed "within 12 months." In my case, I received the cert on January 16, 2009.

Any thoughts? Is it worth putting up a fight or should I just roll over on this one?

I would say something, especially since we weren't really given any indication that there was a date by which these needed to be used...

My WP627 and WP628 appear to be redeemable for NW/Mesaba/Pinnacle flights on nwa.com.

And there's the rub (see my bolding above)...

Just tried to redeem my WP628 cert (WorldPerks Visa 6,000 off award) on NWA.com, DL.com and finally the call center (Chisholm).

I was told that the cert has to be used on flights with NW flight #'s. Since most or all flights are now DL-coded, no chance of using this cert.

This is a bummer. Not only are awards higher on DL, they won't even let us use the remaining award discounts we had left. Anybody tried to fight this with any success?

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta...y-nwa-com.html

to Delta for there atrocious treatment of customers regarding these ecerts.

These certs have now re-appeared on Delta.com with an issue date of 1/28/10 and an expiration date of 12/31/10. You can't redeem them online, but you can view them.

Go to the redeem multiple certificates page, check the "View Certificates and eCredits by Certificate Number" box, and enter the e-cert number or numbers (starting with 012) in the appropriate spaces. Click "Continue" and you should see your certificate information along with a link to view the T&Cs.

They now say:
"Eligible on Delta, Northwest, ASA, Comair, Delta Shuttle, Chautauqua, Compass, Freedom, Mesaba, Pinnacle, Shuttle America, and SkyWest only. Regional carriers are subject to change. Miles off Award Travel certificate is Valid for one round-trip First-Class or Coach-Class ticket on published routings within the 48 contiguous United States and Alaska or between the 48 contiguous United States, Alaska or Canada to Mexico or the Caribbean."

No more NW metal only restriction (which obviously makes sense).

After 1 hour and 45 minutes and being transferred to 4 separate departments in the Delta call center reservations system I was successful in redeeming a WP628 6000 miles off certificate for 2 passengers. I've had this ecert for a while since it was issued by WP Visa almost a year ago. Glad I was finally able to put it to use.

I was fortunate enough to find flights at the 25,000 mile round-trip level, so the entire process only cost 19,000 miles + $10 fees per ticket + my time.

The Delta representatives seemed utterly confused with this certificate since it was transferred from NWA and cannot be redeemed online at this time. I was continually put on hold for the reps to obtain assistance or for supervisors to join the conversation. Ultimately they ended up depositing 12,000 miles into my account, then redeeming the tickets for 50,000, i.e. a net of 38,000 for 2 tix.

Initially, they stated the certificate was only valid for 6000 miles off one ticket, however, I read the terms and conditions as they appeared on the cert and the Delta website, after 15 minutes on hold, the rep came back and said there was no way to verify my claim, but would allow the second passenger anyway. They also attempted to charge the $25 direct ticketing fee, however, I objected since their system would not allow me to book online, therefore, they waived direct ticketing and only charged $10 per ticket.

What an ordeal, I wish they would have left well enough alone and I would have been able to redeem this ecert on nwa.com without the rigamarole of dealing with the Delta reps.

What ridiculous complications.

I can't believe the "no way to verify" line about validity for two pax. If I can read it on the delta.com website, certainly DL agents should be able to read it in their systems, too. And if they can't, hopefully they could use their own website to look up the certificate details.

I was trying to do the same thing this evening and after 4 transfers and 90 mins on the phone, I gave up.

I guess I'll just settle for the 15% mileage credit.

You still can't redeem these online, but now there are new 8-character alphanumeric cert numbers showing online when looking up the certs by number and reference code. Maybe there will be fewer problems with DL over the phone using these new cert numbers.

There still doesnt be much direction as to how to use the discount travel ecerts given out in IROPs. Mine says PK280 valid on all DL/NW/KL flights, but it cannot be redeemed on delta.com meaning I have to call Delta and pay the phone fee, which basically negates the discount! Is there anyway to use the -012 issued ecerts to get $25 off when booking delta.com itineraries?
