I think this practice (IMHO) is more prevalent with Europeans. Often cruisers are then off to sun by the pool or spend time in the spa; not wanting to return to their cabin. Of course, if they are wearing bunny bedroom slippers; then all bets are off.

I think this passenger might have had an American accent. Oh, and her feet were bare.

I would have asked him to call the Captain. If it was an American line (or to/from American waters) - you are perfectly correct in that they cannot discriminate. Whether some would rather see the legs of women rather than yours is not relevant.

Small wonder our courts are jammed up with silly and inane lawsuits.
A more appropriate response would be to leave the lounge as requested and write a letter to the cruise line protesting the embarrassment of having been caught dressed inappropriately.
