This is good news, as the previous rep had no indication that my targeted "Spend $500 from November 1 through December 31, 2015 and receive 3,000 FlexPerks points" offer applied to my account. It appears they are taking the maximum amount of time to award the points (2/29) and crediting them on the next statement after that date. Good resolution.

This bonus took a while to point. I'd also tossed my promotion flyer out. In the future, I'll be sure to keep it to avoid any potential headaches.

The receipt I received on March 24 shows the cash price. There is a line, and then it shows the point price.

Can anyone confirm if this is still the case? The Flexperks award showing a $ cost? I need it for reimbursement purposes.

I can confirm that it does show the cost in $USD, but right underneath that it also shows the point redemption total and how that total covered the cost in $USD reflected. It showed up like this:

Pricing
Ticket Price :
1 Ticket: $354.00
Taxes & fees: $45.20
Total: $399.20
20,000 POINTS redemption value: -$399.20
Total payment: $0.00
Total redemption for this trip: 20,000 POINTS

Okay. Thanks. That helps. Not sure if I will be able to do it this way or not for reimbursement purposes.

On google.com/flights, I've found a total price of $383 but it's showing that they are "separate tickets" and must be booked separately on DL and AA (as, I guess, 2 one ways). Can't get them to pull up on Orbitz even as multi-city b/c they are getting collapsed into one >$400. Do I have any hope of getting this to work?

Update: actually, I CAN get it to come up on Expedia and now Orbitz too. So I think I can call in and ask them to do it manually. Will update with results.

I'm having trouble downgrading the VISA FP card. They say they cannot because the card has no foreign transaction fees. Is anyone else running into problems? Is this complete BS?

Did you try HUCA? (Hang Up, Call Again -- and, obviously, talk to someone else.) That a simple way to narrow down yourself whether it's complete BS or not.

I've never heard of that being a restriction at any other bank. However, various other things can be restrictions, such as whether the cards are similar enough products, whether you've had the card you want to downgrade long enough (at least a year, I think) in its present form, etc.

But what do you want to downgrade it and why? The no-fee card earns only half the rate as the AF card, and I've never ever ever gotten any bonus offers on it except on balance transfers (and even none of those the last couple years). So unless you have some points you want to use up later (but within 5 years before they hard expire), or unless this is your oldest card by now, I don't see the point of downgrading vs just cancelling.

I wasn't the OP on this question but I've been meaning to downgrade my own FP visa. Don't want to cancel bc one of my oldest cards (11 years). Also have points that I'm not ready to spend.

I redeemed flexperks for 3 people, but redemption was made in 2 parts. Am I correct that $25 airline credit is per person, not per redemption? So, I can use 3x$25, correct?

Phantom707 Apr 6, 2016 10:07 am

Is it possible to use the option to redeem 3500 points for the $49 statement credit (to offset the annual fee) multiple times? I can see that as a way to cash out points at a decent rate (above 1 cent per point) if you don't want to fly.

No, you can only do the "$49 credit for 3500 points" redemption once per statement year, and only if you spend >24k in that year.

Anyone try this? I have no use for the $25 allowance (purchased 2 tix with flexperks points). How can I buy gift cards on AA and get the reimbursement? Will AA post GCs as AA purchases (or does it route through giftcardmall or similar)? I only see $50 AA GCs on aa.com. But I'll need to do 2x $25 purchases to maximize benefit.

I just wanted to report that at least the second part of this statement is false. I've spent much less than $24 000 in this year, and I was able to redeem for the $49.

Two different benefits here - once you reach $24000 spending, a bonus 3500 points is credited, with the idea of redeeming it for the $49 credit. Regardless, you can redeem 3500 for the credit whether or not you received the 3500 bonus for $24000 spend.
