I finally closed my FlexPerks Visa card tonight. I opened a FlexPerks AMEX in my wife's name and transferred my points to her. I had previously opened one in my name but found that I could not transfer points inside the same account. We'll see in a year whether they waive the annual fee on my wife's card as a relationship bonus since it was not in her signup offer. It was on the offer for my card, so worst case I just move the points back to my account with the AMEX. Wasn't worth spending the $49 (or 3500 points) to keep the Visa card.

I have noticed when doing a booking they show the seat map but it is not the actual seat map which you can see on Travelocity. This is important because American airlines blocked virtually every isle and window seat on a virtually empty plane. You would give up your points and find you had a middle seat.

Calling american I was told they block many seats unless you book at their site. avoid american if you can

Doesn't Flexperks use the Orbitz site?

On another note, I tried booking a $394 ticket with 20k points and when I went to book with points, there were much less flight options than Orbitz had been displaying at the $394 level

You may be able to call in and have an agent find the flight for you.

Top Off Points

Can Flexperks be purchased to top off one's account?

I know it sounds like a terrible idea because buying any reward points is not normally efficient, but I am stuck 445 points below the threshold for a ticket I want to buy. The fare rules require a purchase no later than 09/15, while my points get posted on the 20th. Of course, the fare may be renewed or replaced with something close enough, but there is no way of knowing. It is a fantastic deal that I'd hate to lose out on, so a small fee for a few points would be indicated in this instance. It seems like they used to offer points for sale but I don't get that offer when I click though now.

Day of travel - in your case on the day when you depart on your last leg 10/14.

No, because you have a single FP account number across all cards, although the points are associated with a specific card. I guess it might have been possible to call and have it done manually, but I didn't try. It worked out OK, since my wife had a 20k point offer for the AMEX card. I only got 10k for opening mine. And certainly better than paying another annual fee.

I always do the day of travel. An agent once told me that on a roundtrip, it could be days of travel or any day in between flights. I guess you could pay baggage fees the day before so that makes since. I dont want any fuss so I stick to day of travel only.

Reducing the cash advance limit to zero?

I just tried to reduce my cash advance limit to zero on my Flexperks Amex and they told me it was impossible with this card. Has anyone had any luck with this?

Yes. There is a "Purchase Points" tab on the rewards site but when I clicked on it, I got this:

We apologize for the inconvenience , but the points purchase functionality is temporarily unavailable online. For assistance with purchasing points, please call Customer Service at 1-866-404-3291.

Has anyone successfully churned either of these cards (FlexPerks Visa or Amex)? If so, with the previous card still open, or only after closing it? Considering trying, but haven't seen any reports about it at all.

Thanks!

$250 for $400 resurrected (on another card)

Just got an offer in the mail from my primary bank (US Bank) that I was getting ready to toss when suddenly, I noticed it offered 25,000 points for "up to a $400 airline ticket"! The card is US Bank Perks+ card -- no annual fee, 2x points on gas/groceries, 1x everywhere else. Plus 10,000 bonus points when you spend $500 in the first 90 days.

Proof:
https://www.usbank.com/credit-cards/...visa-card.html
"...25,000 points for one airline ticket (up to a $400 value) on over 150 airlines with no blackout dates."

So, this is the no-fee version of the FlexPerks card, which offers a $400 ticket for 20,000 points. I'm not sure why you're using the word "offered", they're not giving you 25,000 points.

the link doesn't say sign up bonus. if they offered a sign up bonus, it would be better than the AF version.

I received a similar offer for the Perks+ card via snail mail, but for 20,000 points after $500 in spending.
