In your first example above, do you mean that you saw a fare for $398 on SW website, and Flexperks quoted $360.37 and charged 20k points? How much SW travel credit did you get when you canceled the ticket?

If you have both FlexPerks travel rewards personal and Flexperks travel rewards business and cancel/downgrade one, do the points go over to the other account and stay alive / consolidate?
Also how do you feel US Bank Cash+ compares as a downgrade option? |
I have a data point that is possibly contradictory to the common knowledge regarding freezing ARS and Sagestream. DH was denied the Business Flexperks card for his business with its own FEIN, and the stated reason was that his personal ARS report was frozen. We were referred to a US Bank investigations specialist who told us if we were still interested in the card we would have to unfreeze ARS and then reapply. We asked if they could reconsider the current app after we unfreeze the report, since the Olympics promo is no longer available. She said that was not possible and the only option is to submit a new application.
On the other hand, he was instantly approved for the personal Flexperks card and a business Flexperks card for another business with separate FEIN, which were applied for online immediately prior to applying for the 3rd card that went pending and eventually denied. So although there's a chance he may have been approved for the 3rd card if ARS wasn't frozen, there's also a chance he could have been denied for the other 2 cards if ARS had been available. Oh well, 2 out of 3 isn't bad.;) |
USB closed my two new accounts, personal and business flexperks from Olympics promo, along with my other two accounts from last year (flexperks amex and club carlson). Haven’t got a chance to talk to the person who made decision but the guy I spoke to was because they “discovered” later there were a bunch of other accounts opened recently and would like to see how I handled those first. I’ve only had about 4 new personal accounts this calendar year… Somebody doesn’t want to pay out these Olympics bonuses.
Now I need to see if they’ll let me cash out my 80k+ Flexperks I already had…. Any thoughts on best way to cash out points quickly without an immediate need for air travel? |

this seems like a trend now. you aren't the first who got shutdown as of late.
US Bank is now closing existing accounts, not because of any shenanigans you've done with your US Bank cards (significant MS, cycling spend up to credit limits then paying down within a billing cycle, etc.), but because they gave existing longstanding customers a sniff and decided they've applied for too many credit cards at *other* banks in the past 24 months? That is, like a Chase 4/24 policy, but applied retroactively? Izzat about right? |
Yes, that appears to be the case in this scenario. And not the first report I have read that goes along this lines.

Similar occurrence for me when I applied for the Olympic promo. I have two business cards already with US Bank and was denied on the FP Biz for too many new accounts. I reconned twice by phone (both sagestream and ARS already frozen,) then wrote a letter to their credit dept. asking if I could move some existing credit line to open the new card.
I then noticed my older account that had no balance and no late payments disappeared from my online profile, but no new account showed up. I finally heard from credit investigations dept. that they couldn't move credit unless I unfroze the minor bureaus, and then I would have to re- apply (!) thus missing the Olympic promo. I then just asked for my closed account to be reopened, but it took three more phone calls and two clueless reps before finding a good rep who was able to reinstate it in two minutes. In over twenty years of churning credit cards and many successful recons this was my first denial, and probably the last time I deal with US Bank...... |

Hmmm. Is there any sense based on collective experience what their magic numbers are (X/Y)? Any other criteria used or triggers?

A fresh DP based on my new account and first points experience with USBank. I applied for the FlexPerks Visa card about a week before the Olympics bonus promo ended, and completed the minimum $2K spend just last week on Sept. 12. First statement closed Sept. 19 and I was (partly) pleasantly surprised that the base signup bonus points and points earned on purchases posted today (9/20).
Although this is faster than I expected based on some others' posts, I don't yet see the additional 14K+ Olympics points. Once those arrive I'll be about 2K short of 40K. |

If you travel on Southwest, probably the easiest way to cash out and get decent value is to book some southwest tickets with your points and then cancel them for credit. You will have to call in to book the tickets but they should waive the phone booking fee since you can't book them online.
But the credit is only valid for one year and it is tied to the original traveler(s), right? |
