Thumbs down Why the hassle?

I applied for the AMEX PPE card online from citicards.com . In the past few months they only had one offer for it, the 20,000 TYP after $600 in purchases. I made the $600 in purchases, however for my surprise I received only 15,000 TYP. I called citi asking for the missing 5000 TYP. After a week of investigation they sent me a letter requesting me to send them this offer. Now, if there were a few offers for this card then their request is legit. However, in this case I told them that they can easily check on their website and with the marketing department, because a 15,000 TYP offer simply does not/ did not exist for PPE on their website (either 10,000 for the PP or 20,000 PPE). Talking to a supervisor didn't help either.

So, I need to print the offer from their website and send it to them as a proof. Is it too much to ask for common sense?

Many call center workers aren't allowed to access the internet to verify these things. For the 5,000 points - heck, I just bought a $250 grocery card with my Debit for 2,500 bonus TYN points - I would mail them a copy of the offer on the website.

One could also (theoretically) change the system clock so your card application date shows up on the printout.

It is not the call center. Someone in citi is conducting an "investigation". what is more simple than checking that this offer for 15,000 does not exist?

A suggestion for the future

I follow this practice for applying for new credit cards. I downloaded one of the free programs that converts webpages to pdf files, win2pdf etc. Before I apply for a new card, I create a subdirectory with the new card offer and date. I then pdf print each and every page of the offer and application process. Usually about 10 pages. In the end, I have a "date stamped" file of the offer. If there are any questions, I review the pdf's. If there is a problem after I get the card (fees, bonuses, etc), I call the issuer and review the offer. This has always worked for me. Relying upon an offshore call center worker to figure out your problem with no support is not very rewarding.

Their "investigation" could simply be looking at a screen that suggests you enrolled with a 15,000 mile offer. If I'm entitled to something of value, I have no problems "over-documenting".

Hey, my Citi debit card doesn't give me 10 points per dollar spent for groceries or anything else ( $250 grocery card with my Debit for 2,500 bonus TYN points ).

How do I do that. I have citi checking , debit card and PPE mastercard. I buy groceries all the time.

It was a one-off promotion to encourage me to use my TYN-enrolled debit card (which I don't otherwise use except as an ATM when traveling domestically - there's no Citibank in my area of Tennessee).

lucky, thats pretty awesome, wish I had that offer of 10 TYP/dollar.

now ever time I apply for a new CC, I always make sure I have a screenshot or at least proof of the offer...to avoid situations like this.
