difficulty levels in applying for some of the popular CCs
Hi all,
I've only had a US credit history for about a year and half. I just checked my free experian and transunion score and they're 660 and 738 respectively. Unfortunately, it looks like I have an overdue library fine which I forgot to pay popup on my credit report. Giving the above informaton, can anyone please recommend a travel rewards card that should be obtainable by me?
I currently have Citi Pro and Discover and am thinking of getting the premier pass elite and the Chase UA signature card. But the names sound like they require really high credit scores.
Anyone got any suggestion? Thanks.

I do not really understand what you mean...when were your credit scores checked last? How do you pay? Call the CITI PRO card and ask to apply for a PP elite....
Just because how the name sounds does not really mean anything...I do not know about the signature card, but the PP Elite should be possible...

Your credit scores are well within the average range and you should not have an issue getting a credit card. Generally, with the 660 (it depends on which bureau and sometimes all 3 that the issuer checks - wo we'll use the lowest for discussion here) you can get a credit card other than a WorldCard MasterCard or a Visa Signature - these 2 products offer "no pre-set" spending limit and you most likely will not qualify with a 660. For any other card, gold, platinum, whatever the level, you will likely qualify. Your APR and credit line may vary based on that score. I can't remember if Premier Pass is a WorldCard or not, but don't go by the name - I'm in cards marketing and we love to make the cards sound fancy.

PremierPass and PremierPass Elite are both World Mastercards, but historically they have been among the easiest Citi cards to get (not sure if this has changed as they've become more mature products). Typically most credit card issuers only pull 1 report (Capital One being the notable exception). Which bureau is used tends to vary by location and issuer. For instance, I'm in MA and Citi always pulls Experian on me. You can search the Credit Pulls database:

to get an idea of what various issuers are likely to use in your state (but there is definitely no guarantee).
I would take care of that unpaid bill on your report first though. Talk to the creditor (is it with a collection agency now?). One route is the dispute/verification route if you don't believe you actually owe the money. Another would be to try to settle with them, and as a condition of settlement, have them remove all negative references from your credit report. CreditBoards.com will have a lot more info on this topic.

You can definitely get the UA Visa from chase or US Airways mastercard from juniper, but they won't be visa signature or world mastercard products- they'll issue you platinum or gold cards with a fixed limit. You should still get the same $1=1 mile and signup bonuses though..

I have the same range of scores (3-4 years of credit history) ... and i could get the Premierpass CC and also was offered to be "upgraded" to Elite one. I think now a days all UA cards are signature cards (w/ levels i donot know what they even mean VIsa sig Gold level, visa sig plat level etc). THe general rule for VISA signature is 5000$ min credit line. World is much more diluted brand (min 3000$) because not all "worlds" have the same benifit. I have been approved for Amex gold/Plat charge card. So i think as long as you pick cards with annual fees they are generally more lenient on giving you the card (provided you meet the minimun credit line requirements).

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
I hope I will be able to get one of them!
As well, I got my first 2 CCs by asking the credit department of Citi to check on my Canadian credit history. Now that I've had 1.5 years of Us history, is it better to use my US history (not perfect) or my perfect Canadian credit history?
I phoned citi and the 2 people I talked to had no idea
Any suggestions? Thanks!
