Couldn’t find today’s Bilt Points Quest Trivia answers anywhere online, did it anyway, couldn’t effectively use Google to help due to 10 second time limit. I got 4 of 5 correct, did not get a 6th (most rewarding) question, 130 points total. Not sure if there are more than 5 questions and if everyone gets the same questions. Hope everyone else can get the full 250 points, it’s a marathon not a sprint and the longest journey starts with 1 step (or 250 points) :tu:. (I don’t post on reddit, I’ll only post this here.)

10/1/23 Q & A:
Most decorated Olympian: Micheal Phelps
Host city 2024 Olympics: Paris
Football interception for touchdown: Pick Six
Football perfect season with Superbowl win: Miami
Early hockey puck material: Frozen cow dung

Thank you, not sure why I couldn’t find that reddit thread with 5-10 minutes of Google searching, would have been nice. Maybe next month I'll ask for the link here BEFORE I try to answer the questions. (And I though I was being so magnanimous by posting here before it was posted anywhere and despite my annoyance at not earning the full 250 points :D.)

I just went to the r/biltrewards "forum" and looked at recent threads.

https://www.reddit.com/r/biltrewards/

Sports trivia is definitely not my strong suit, so not sure if the answers will actually help me this time. Probably not worth memorizing little factoids that are of zero interest to me to earn a few more points.

Points and miles are always worth it, even just a few of them, it’s a marathon not a sprint, the longest journey starts with 1 step ;).

Perfect example of (a minimal number of) points being worth it.

I’m writing as one who’s had to experience WAY more than my fair share of memory testing and who definitely had a method to my madness (of memory and testing), not at all trying to be disrespectful or tell you what you should do. (College, medical school, Navy, residency, board certification, many hours of required online training and testing prior to reserve mobilization, re-certification; seems like I spent my life studying SOMETHING for a test or exam.) I often think that I would not have graduated from medical school if it required more memorization and less recall and if I had not learned taught myself effective study and testing habits.

These trivia answers do not require memorization (remember), they require recall. “Remember” means to keep something in your memory, while “recall” means to access your memory, like the difference between a “fill in the blank” question and a “multiple choice” question. (We had 1 “fill in the blank” exam in first year medical school (bacteriology), the average score was 42%, I got a 37%, no more “fill in the blank” exams after that .) Recall is also more “short term” than memorization which is more likely to become long term memory.

Next month, I’ll find the reddit thread, read though it once or twice for a minute or 2, not specifically trying to memorize (remember) it, then immediately do the Bilt Multiple choice Points Quest questions and try to answer each question as quickly as possible. For a multiple choice question there’s a valid reason the first thought is most likely to be correct. Multiple choice questions are more likely to be answered incorrectly when “overthought” and/or the answer is changed from that originally chosen.

Although both remember and recall fade with age :td: , I should be able to recall and select the correct answers from list, not sure I would be able to regurgitate the correct answers unprompted. If Points Quest was “fill in the blank” I’d still give it a try but I doubt I’d put as much effort toward it due to less likelihood of success.

Excellent. FWIW, copying and editing will enhance both remember and recall. Might be an efficient procedure going forward, edit the reddit post for posting here THEN do the Bilt trivia.

Yes, and I think I will create a second account for my spouse. Double the reward for the same effort. If I transfer to Hyatt from both accounts and then combine them, it will take only 10 months for us to earn a single night in a luxurious category one property somewhere in a suburb of a larger city :)

I did it about 3 weeks ago, met the quasi-SUB spend with estimated tax payments.

Just in case you’re not aware, Chase has both personal and biz Hyatt cards, each with 24 month SUB timeframes.

how does the bilt SUB work? You get “extra” points just in the first 5 days? I have seen the Hyatt cards, their SUB just aren’t as high as rhe ink (assuming I can get more than one per card)

Granted, but could conceivably max out Ink approvals/SUBs while still having capability for additional (Hyatt CC) approvals/SUBs.

Kind of a lengthy answer. The Cliffs Notes* version is upon receipt of a new Bilt MC an email is often received stating (paraphrasing): “Your Bilt Mastercard has been delivered! … offer you 5X points on all of your eligible purchases (excluding rent) for the next 5 days … Terms: … only valid for 5 days from the date this email … earn a total of 5 rewards points, (1 base point plus 4 bonus points), per $1 spent on net purchases … maximum … 50,000 points… must make at least 5 transactions each statement period using your Bilt Mastercard to earn points.” I refer to it as "quasi" due to the 5 day timeframe.

I documented my recent experience with Bilt application, receipt, quasi-SUB in a series of posts on the Bilt thread starting on 9/1/23. This post discusses the quasi-SUB, this post clarifies the quasi-SUB max.

Just to further clarify, to max out, you'll need $12,500 of purchases since the base point does not count from the 50K max. Only the 4x bonus points count toward the 50K max. This assumes 1x spending - not sure what happens if you spend in bonus categories in this period. I know they get to 5x also, but I'm not sure if the 5x bonus pool of 50K gets used after 1x or after the normal amount (2x or 3x).

I really need to start buying like hotel gift cards or something on the 1st. By far the best deals out there. Just eating out nice once a month on the first becomes very appealing.

I've been loading up on InKind (restaurant dining app) credit on the 1st for (good!) restaurants in New York I'd visit anyway. 6x points from Bilt and typically a nice upfront discount from InKind.

I wonder what the total charges (for all cardholders combined) by day of month curve looks like for Bilt, ignoring rent.

I'm curious too. It might be more evenly distributed for things like dining since 3x is a great earn rate on a no annual fee card.

Made it a date night a couple months ago at one of the Bilt rewards participants (that happened to be one of my regular spots)...11x was pretty sweet!

Dr Jabadski Oct 5, 2023 9:06 am

My first Bilt rent (condominium monthly common charge) payment and POINTS just processed. Thank you :tu::tu::tu: to all those who so graciously assisted (with replies to my questions above) my quest to (easily and no cost) pointsetize (like monetize) my monthly condo payments which has been a dream for 25 years since I bought a condominium after becoming (almost) obsessed with points and miles.

The Bilt website answered a remaining question as to how Bilt indicates the 5 required transactions each month (to earn points). With a statement date of 10/1/23, today on the Bilt website I see “STOP SHOP 0123 10/03/23 8 pts Earn after 5 transactions.” Of course I missed (until just now) the Bilt page “How can I tell how many transactions I've made in a statement period? A transaction counter will appear in the Wallet > Bilt Card tab of the Bilt Rewards app and our website if you have not met the 5 transaction requirements within your current statement period. Once you've made 5 or more transactions, the counter will disappear. The transaction counter will re-appear when a new statement period begins.”

FWIW, my condo payment appears on the Wells Fargo website as “BPS*BILT REWARDS B NEW YORK NY #12345678L6Y0WGNB3” and on the Bilt Rewards website as “BPS*BILT REWARDS B 10/03/23 2,000 pts $1,500.00” and “ Activity details +2,000 points BPS*BILT REWARDS B 1x Points on Rent +1,500 points First Rent Bonus Points +500 points Transaction amount $1,500.00 Transaction date Oct 4, 2023.” The word “rent” only appears in regards to the Bilt points, not regarding the description of the transaction on the CC activity. I’ve come to believe that condo payments (in many cases) generate Bilt points based on Bilt’s (? Mistaken) understanding of those payments as rent. Is it possible (or probable) that Bilt knows it’s a condo payment but chooses to treat it as a rent payment? (The “First Rent Bonus +500 points” was a pleasant surprise for me :tu:, those points are NOT "pending" 5 transactions.)

I also see today for the first time additional ways to earn Bilt points:

“Earn up to 300 Bilt Points with your Bilt Wallet. Add any card to your Bilt Wallet, and we’ll give you 100 points (up to 3 times). Link your credit and debit cards to automatically earn bonus Bilt points on eligible spend.” What’s the rationale and implications of adding a CC to Bilt Wallet? Any potential problems with charges being billed to the wrong credit card (add AmEx MR card to Bilt wallet, swipe that MR card, earn Bilt points but no MR points)?

“Earn up to 5X on Lyft rideshare. Going somewhere? Make it rewarding by riding with Lyft and earn up to 5X Bilt Points. Terms apply”. Chase has a time limited (IIRC March 2024 extended to March 2025) promotion for 5X on Lyft on some UR cards. As of today, is Bilt 5X on Lyft though to be time limited? If one has a Chase 5X card as default Lyft payment and adds that card to Bilt wallet, would earnings then be 10X (“double dipped” 5X Chase UR + 5x Bilt)?

“Earn bonus points with Bilt Dining. Use any eligible card from your Bilt Wallet, and earn bonus points at Bilt Dining restaurants.” I haven’t followed dining programs carefully since before COVID (when I used to dine out more often). Last time I reviewed, the dining programs for UA, AA and DL were all administered by the same company (Rewards Network) and I could only register a credit card to one of the programs, upon registering that same credit card in a different program the CC would automatically be removed from the first program. Is Bilt Dining administered by the same company? Can points for dining be “double dipped” (similar to possible Lyft double dipping above)?

Thanks very much once again.

josephstern Oct 5, 2023 10:44 am

For Lyft, it's 2x if you use a different credit card. I use my Chase Sapphire Reserve for its bonus with Lyft, and get the 2x from Bilt also. Note that if you had another partner in there (I think Delta is one) it gets removed when you add Bilt.

That's exactly what I do, too. :) 5x Chase + 2x BILT per USD!

Thank you. It would seem that I shouldn’t make any changes if I’m happy with Lyft rides earning 5X UR (for using an applicable Chase card) plus 2-3X Hilton (as my Lyft registered active loyalty rewards partner and depending on airport or non-airport ride)?

What is the typical CL being given with these cards? I'd like to make one (or two) estimated tax payments if I get the 5x sign-up bonus and can probably cover the entire $12,500 that way.

I only got like 4k. It's a free card, I suppose.
Most of my other cards are ~15k limits, so I'd consider the Bilt more stingy.

Mine is $20,000. I don't have any other Wells Fargo issued cards and only have a minimal amount in a Wells Fargo checking account. I'm not a churner, but this is far from my only card.

I agree with the position that I won't complain for a no annual fee card, especially with this earn rate.

A month ago I got $30K (first ever WF CC, ~200 other CC accounts past 20 years, credit scores ~820-830) and during the month prior to that the only mention (here or elsewhere can’t recall) I saw of an initial CL was also $30K. I kinda thought that was standard.

I did meet the quasi-SUB with tax payments and then sent WF a payment 2-3 days before statement date, didn’t want them reporting 42% credit utilization. Not sure if a Bilt CL is lower than $12.5K one could send a payment immediately upon receipt of the card to allow for higher charges within the first 5 days.

Thank you, me too. I don’t use Lyft that often so it’s not a lot of points and I switched my hotel loyalty to Hyatt a few years ago so my Hilton Lyft points in good part are to keep my (healthy) Hilton balance alive. I may very well change it in the near future.

And of course, if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it. My Hilton Lyft points invariably post within minutes of completing a Lyft ride, in contrast to my Delta Lyft miles (when that was a thing) which never posted despite linking the accounts several times and a fair amount of time troubleshooting with both Delta and Lyft.

And I remain skeptical of Bilt’s long term (overly generous) survival.

BREAK

It was discussed above in several different posts (5 links #312, 314, 342, 343, 344), I’m still concerned that Bilt may go “belly up”* or have a severe devaluation in the not too distant future, I plan to maintain a minimal balance in my Bilt rewards account.

(* “Belly up" is an idiomatic expression in American English used to describe a business, organization, or institution that has ceased to exist or gone bankrupt. Of course in the all-male sea-duty Navy of 35 years ago we used a different first word instead of “belly”.)

Thank you, excellent suggestion. I use one of multiple quasi-sock drawered AmEx biz golds for dining, gets 4x since I only use those cards for dining and gasoline, (hopefully) avoids charges of inactivity and ideally I’d like to charge as little as possible (other than rent) to Bilt card. I’d sock drawer my Bilt MC if it was productive and prudent.

(reddit poster) ... Other than rent, my bilt card became a microtransaction card to meet the transaction requirements. On every reddit thread I found and reviewed there's one or more posts from BiltRewards as quoted below.

(biltrewards) Hey there! Please send us a private message with your account information, we will be happy to look into this for you. Bilt does not close accounts for the reasons stated above.

And, for broader community, we continue to reach out to folks who post this and they never follow up which makes it impossible to investigate.

(biltrewards) Hey there! Can you please send us a private message with your Bilt account information? I will be happy to look into this for you.

(biltrewards) Hey there! Please send us a private message with your account information, we will be happy to look into this for you. Bilt does not close accounts for reasons such as moving or changes to your lease and accounts are not cancelled or suspended unless there is indication of potential fraud.

(biltrewards) We are aware of these reddit posts. To be 100% clear, Bilt business and customer usage is totally business as usual and there are no account closures happening (unless there is clear fraud).

We do not see any reports of customer issues in our regular support inbox. And, none of the posters in the reddit threads have actually replied to us and provided us their info to investigate their accounts. It is hard for us to do anything if we users post and then don't actually engage with us to get help (if there is an issue).

New Benefit just announced - in ten US cities at select restaurants, earn up to 10x extra points if you use a linked card (doesn't have to be the Bilt card).

Checked a couple restaurants near me, not bad..a hotpot plade we go to is +8. So... 11 points per dollar using the Bilt card? That's basically a 20% discount. Near.

Come on, in a few months, when I have enough points from the quizzes to actually be eligible to transfer anything :)

With the uncertainty of whether everyone gets the 5 day spend bonus offer I have so fa4 not bothered with getting the card. And I am not a renter.
