No idea. FWIW, I ordered some stuff from Newegg a week ago and it redirected to a Verified By Visa page with Chase's logo for a few seconds before redirecting back to Newegg.

Amex chip cards are only accepted at merchants that accept amex cards. (which isn't that many) on the other hand If the merchant does accept amex but your visa chip card fails for some reason, your amex will most likely work

I didn't go looking for a sign-up link; just noting the language that seems to imply the card user has some control over the matter. I have never paid any attention to V by V services when shopping online.

It's important when you travel internationally, especially when you buy travel products in preparation for the trip

Just came back from a 4 week trip to Europe.

We were able to use our Arrival + card with a PIN(used it in local WalMart prior to the trip) everywhere without issues.

Worked in Trenitalia's unmanned booths(lines in manned booths Roma Termini were so long) fine; you just have to keep refusing "help" from gypsies !

It worked fine in SNCF & in Paris Metro station booths also(it would ask for the PIN and would ask you to enter it discreetly).

Most restaurants/shops it would spit out the receipt to sign; some shops like Carrefour and other Grocery stores it would just print the receipt and we did not even have to sign(maybe there is a Euro limit ??) or enter a PIN.

Also Trenitalia and SNCF coded fine as travel expenses for paying them with Reward points !

EU merchants are not required to obtain a signature for transactions less than the contactless limit anymore (25 EUR or 20 GBP) on signature preferring cards.

I'm glad to hear the card worked well though.

Edit
Where do you see a link to sign up? I think that link simply goes to a marketing page for issuers and merchants. (in some cases consumers if the bank you use gives you a choice whether to opt in or not
Heck I did not even know such voluntary sign up existed.

I have multiple Chase Visa cards gone thru the V program just fine up till Mar or Apr this year when I bought the tickets from Trenitalia. Then epic failure with SNCF. Then the Mumbai India based rude agent told me Chase no longer participated so cardholder must call ahead in order to be "verified".

Except same situation with me. I was also able to buy Trenitalia tickets with CSP 1-2years ago with no issues
And, to answer your question about opting in to vbv
If I am not mistaken, I believe wells Fargo is an opt in by choice issuer (or at the very least they take higher safety measures when it comes to v by v transactions) Again, I very well could be wrong on this. Anyone know for sure?

Here in Europe, it's possible for the card issuer to run additional checks using Verified by Visa/Mastercard SecureCode, but to not actually require the cardholder to type in any details.

It works just how you mentioned - a redirect showing the logos, then a redirect back to the merchant.

With my MasterCard credit card, I don't normally need to enter the SecureCode password.

As a distraction today from hearing about the tragic air disaster. I tried to press Chase for more information regarding v by v situation
Frontline CSP rep did not know much then I got transferred to the security dept this time in the philippines I would guess where the rep wasnt that aware and simply said this maybe something on a case by case basis. Do you guys think there is some truth to this? (I am almost tempted to do a v by v transaction, in order to provide my own first hand data point)

I had my worst chip and signature experience yet today. At Pull & Bear in Amsterdam they not only insisted on seeing my passport but wrote down my passport number beside my signature! Insanity...

We never had anyone write down the passport number, but did have to show it occasionally.

Yes what Pull & Bear did was beyond ridiculous and I'll be raising as much hell as I can when I get home.
