This thread is a continuation of the discussion posted here from 12.08.2012 - 5.13.2014: Barclays Arrival/Arrival Cards (1.05%/2.1% travel credits)

Current offer for Arrival Plus is 70K pts w/$5K spend & AF waived 1st year.

Barclays says that you earn “miles” but you’re actually earning cash back with the card since you can’t transfer your Barclays miles to airlines. But you can redeem them for statement credits at 0.5 cents per mile (poor value) or 1.05 cent per mile if you redeem for travel.

You get 5% of your miles back if you redeem for travel, so 40,000 miles gets you $400 towards travel and 2,000 miles back (5% of your miles back). You must have at least 10K 'miles' in your acct if you wish to redeem as a travel credit. 2500 'miles' can be redeemed for a stmt credit though.

If you want, you can redeem miles to cover a portion of a travel charge instead of the full amount. For example, if you have 80k miles and a $740 airline charge, you can choose to redeem just 70k to cover $700 of the charge.

You earn 2X miles on all purchases, so you’re effectively getting 2% cash back for each purchase. But since you get 5% of your miles back when you redeem for travel, this is effectively a 2.1% cash back card when miles are redeemed for travel.

This makes the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard® (with 2.1% cash back for travel) better than the Capital One Venture card which offers only 2 miles per $1 or 2% cash back, only if you spend $30k+ per year after first year, because Arrival Plus AF is $30 more than Venture.

If you receive a call from 302-255-8000 after applying for this or any other Barclay's card, it is a legit number! You can also call them back directly at 866-951-1437.

It errors out for me everytime I try to go to the redeem for travel section as well. Has been doing that since at least 9/17. Frustrating.

I finally called in yesterday. They are aware of the issue and trying to fix it. They can redeem over the phone though.

It also seems like the waiting time in b/w canceling the A+ and applying for the next one only needs to be about a month, right?

Thanks for clarifying, and for correcting me if I've misunderstood the collective wisdom here!
My individual experience (YMMV):

Got A- (no fee) a few weeks before AF hit on A+ last January 2015,
Cancelled A+ and got fee reversed early February,
Applied for A+ a few months later (because HSBC repeatedly lied to me about their card being pin priority) and was instantly denied. Chat with reconsideration recommended that I pay off A- then call back to close it (wouldn't allow A+ with A- open due to "existing relationship"). Called back and got A+ by cancelling paid off A-, and was able to transfer limit to A+.

The only concern I had with cancelling the A- before applying for the A+ was not being able to transfer the limit. Downgrades lose the signup bonus so not good idea to me. Note that points balance was never allowed to be transferred between cards.

In the end, got 2 A+ 40k signups and 1 A- 20k signup AND, because I (by luck) opened the 2nd A+ after October 2014 and before July 2015, still have the $25 (vs $100 otherwise) min redemption reportedly until August 15th 2016 rather than November 17? 2015! Doubt the A+ makes any sense after that because of 4x increase to $100 min redemption.

Question Authorized user card number

I searched for this but couldn't find an answer.

Can anyone confirm if Barclay's authorized users get a different card number or is it the same as the primary card number?

Thanks

I signed up for A+ in Oct 2014 and cancelled on June 30, 2015. I'd like to sign up again and get the 40k bonus a second time but I can't find any recent data points on whether this is doable after all the recent changes to A+ over the summer. Does anyone have any recent info to share?

I just noticed today that charges I've already redeemed for weeks ago have shown up in my redeemable list with a few days left to redeem. I don't have enough points right now so I'm not trying to redeem twice. This must be some mistake.

Flipkey/TipAdvisor

Just a question, does any one have any data point of redemptions with Flipkey/TripAdvisor/HomeAway 's vacation house/condo rentals?

In my experience the owners were not coded to Barclay's rules but once I called and gave them the address of the condo and the statement posted I was able to get credit. This was for a mos rent so it was substantial.

Homeaway is tricky because it codes as real estate, but I was able to get a redemption for a recent rental after a couple of SMs and asking politely to have it referred to the Redemption department. The statement credit showed up two days later.

It's absolutely frustrating and I gave them a piece of mind when I called today. If not fixed soon I will have to cancel the card as calling in every time is not worth it to me. I don't know why I get the feeling that they doing this knowingly till they reduce the rebate to 5%!

So I went ahead applied for my 2nd A+ and was approved instantly. Guess I'll have to wait and see whether I get the bonus.

On a side note, my wife (who is a current A+ card holder) tried applying for A- today and was denied for some reason.

Well, I've now been permanently IP-banned from the Travel Community forum. It's apparently because I've been posting actual content, rather than the gibberish that makes up 90% of their "stories." Due to this, I shall be spending not one more penny on my Arrival. It's relegated to the sock drawer for all eternity.
