This thread is a continuation of the discussion posted here from 12.08.2012 - 5.13.2014: Barclays Arrival/Arrival Cards (1.05%/2.1% travel credits)

Current offer for Arrival Plus is 70K pts w/$5K spend & AF waived 1st year.

Barclays says that you earn “miles” but you’re actually earning cash back with the card since you can’t transfer your Barclays miles to airlines. But you can redeem them for statement credits at 0.5 cents per mile (poor value) or 1.05 cent per mile if you redeem for travel.

You get 5% of your miles back if you redeem for travel, so 40,000 miles gets you $400 towards travel and 2,000 miles back (5% of your miles back). You must have at least 10K 'miles' in your acct if you wish to redeem as a travel credit. 2500 'miles' can be redeemed for a stmt credit though.

If you want, you can redeem miles to cover a portion of a travel charge instead of the full amount. For example, if you have 80k miles and a $740 airline charge, you can choose to redeem just 70k to cover $700 of the charge.

You earn 2X miles on all purchases, so you’re effectively getting 2% cash back for each purchase. But since you get 5% of your miles back when you redeem for travel, this is effectively a 2.1% cash back card when miles are redeemed for travel.

This makes the Barclaycard Arrival PlusTM World Elite MasterCard® (with 2.1% cash back for travel) better than the Capital One Venture card which offers only 2 miles per $1 or 2% cash back, only if you spend $30k+ per year after first year, because Arrival Plus AF is $30 more than Venture.

If you receive a call from 302-255-8000 after applying for this or any other Barclay's card, it is a legit number! You can also call them back directly at 866-951-1437.

FWIW, I got a pending as well when I applied. Since this was my first ever app with Barclays, I decided to call right away. Rep asked me for my SS, name, DOB, and then said looks like you're already approved.

"miles" are earned at 2% per $ spent and 10% of prior miles redeemed.
"miles" can be redeemed 1:1 ONLY against travel expenses and ONLY once per travel expense line item.
minimum redemption = $25.
If miles balance is greater than expense, exact full expense can be reimbursed.
If miles balance is less than expense, only redemption amounts in even $25 increments can be used, and only at a few even amounts just below the the expense amount.
Other uses of miles are discounted 50% (or effectively more for shopping).

Is the current version of the card the chip & signature rather than true chip & pin? I see a lot of aggravation online about this point, but some complaints seem dated.

If you define "true chip and PIN" as always asking for the PIN whenever you use the card, then no it is not. A signature slip prints out most of the time the card but the card should still be usable almost everywhere though.

Interesting, thanks. I don't care about the inconvenience of needing to have a pen on me to sign with. But, would this be a problem at an unmanned toll booth or someplace without a person? I am unsure of the logistics of that kind of a situation.

The PIN will be asked for (or possibly nothing at all) in those situations, so you should be fine. ^

paying bill

This may be old info and all is corrected now, but has anyone had problems with their payments to Barclay's (via online banking) being rejected? Live in US and considering applying for card, however do not want payment hassles.

I've never had any problems with it, and I've paid my Arrival card via both Serve and a linked bank account.

payment

Thank you.

I do not have a Barclay's account so would be using my own bank. Will check with my bank to see if they have all the info. Barclay's gives these directions:

If you are a non-Barclays account holder then you can pay via your respective bank’s telephone and online services.

Our bank details (for phone or online banking payments):
- Our sort code: 20-04-15
- Our account number: 38290008
Please make sure you use your card number as the payment reference.

Just not sure if this is for UK or US. Does that look familiar?

I called Barclay's and my bank. Was told it was a US processor so should be no problem.

That info is for the UK, and I don't know if they can process payments to USD cards.

For "Barclaycard Arrival Plus™ World Elite MasterCard®", Can anybody confirm "0% introductory APR for 12 months" is only for balance transfer? Or it can be used for any normal transaction also?

Website says: "0% Introductory APR for 12 months for each Balance Transfer made within 45 days of account opening. After that, a variable APR will apply, currently 15.99% or 19.99%, depending on your creditworthiness"

called to get the annual fee waived (spent about $100k so far this year - building a house), no dice. said I could cancel the card within 60 days of the fee posting and get full refund of the fee. Told him I would use the points on an upcoming trip and cancel then (ill see what they say in july).
