Wife got approved with a 680 score.

Credit limit of $2500.

Called and asked for a higher balance to "take advantage of the great BT rates" and they bumped her to $8k.

I am going to hit this card hard.

greggarious Apr 26, 2016 11:05 am

I'm confused - then how is the card not churnable?

al613 Apr 26, 2016 10:29 pm

Logging into my old accounts (amex card still shows) received an offer to apply for 5 points per dollar card (identical to what I closed 3 month ago). Terms seem ok:
Get our lowest introductory rate with a Wells Fargo RewardsŪ Card:

10,000 bonus rewards points when you spend $1,000 in net purchases the first 3 months your card is opened.Important Information and Footnotes 1 - Popup
Enjoy our lowest introductory rate on purchase and balance transfers for 15 months.Important Information and Footnotes 2 - Popup
$0 annual fee. Credit Terms and Conditions - Popup

5X rewards points on gas, grocery and drugstore net purchases for the first 6 months your card is opened and 1X rewards points on other net purchases every day.

Eligibility for introductory rate(s), fees, and bonus rewards offers
If you or any joint applicant currently have an open credit card account or a closed credit card account with a balance issued by Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., you will not be eligible for the above introductory APR(s) and fees or the bonus rewards offers described below if your existing card has been open less than 16 months.

Has anyone seen any May activity?

My last pending expected posting is as of 4/30. Has anybody seen anything of May activity yet in pending? Its already the 5th??

littlewinglet May 5, 2016 11:54 am

I have mine from 5/3 all showing, expected redeemable later this month.

popinsmoke Jun 21, 2016 5:18 pm

Got shut down....... :(

Honestly I think the tip was paying off my card from my WF checking. I did it once, for 7k. Geeze. I made mad cheddar so it was good while it lasted.

NikSem Oct 1, 2016 8:23 am

They (recently) changed the wait period terms. Previously one could not churn a card that had had a balance on it (it was relevant for me because I was issued a card I never used). Now they imply there should be at least 16 months between the opening dates:

https://www.wellsfargo.com/credit-cards/rewards/terms/

"
Eligibility for introductory rate(s), fees, and bonus rewards offers
If you have opened a Wells Fargo credit card account within 16 months of this application you will not be eligible for the above introductory APR(s) and fees or any bonus rewards offers described below even if that account has been closed and has a zero balance.
"

I am not eligible anyway, but some of you can try.

BigRedBears Oct 5, 2016 3:27 pm

I noticed that T&C now state that we have 5 years to use points. I believe that wasn't the clause before.

CJS415 Jan 9, 2017 5:07 pm

Do you think you would be shutdown if you used the card for VGC from grocery stores and drugstores, them deposited money orders to WF Business Checking, transferred the money to another bank, and then paid the CC from the other bank. I want to hit this card hard, and the account I have seasoned for years happens to be a WF account. There's always a risk I guess.

I have a credit line of 13k. Receive the letter after 1 month of heavy spending at CVS. Do you think I can still do some moderate spending at CVS? May be $3-4k a month?

in order to judge - how much did you do the first month?

I'm sure they were wondering what you bough at CVS for $14k that month! LOL. What did the letter say exactly, I'm curious because I am about to open one up and do the same thing. You can also hit grocery stores hard too.

mix in some other spending, you should be ok...

so I am guessing you cycled your credit limit? they don't like that too much... could be what triggered it

It said they have noticed suspicious pattern of paying several times during cycle and big transactions at CVS

the responses here are ridiculous . I did similar to you about 1 year ago(spending wildly on gc at groceries and CVS.) It lasted about 3 months. Got same letter. laid off for a few weeks. Then bought 2 VGC at Shoprite. Week later acct was closed and lost some points. Hint, redeem points NOW!!!

I did not really went so much over it. I guess several payments were a mistake.

Thanks for advise. Even if I would try CVS again, I already have spent all points. Did the closure affected other WF accounts?

CJS415 Feb 6, 2017 11:22 pm

I would love to hear from someone who hit this card hard but did not cycle the limit. I'm guessing if you max out your credit limit each month but don't cycle they wouldn't be so willing to ship out a breakup letter. Oh yeah, and use the points asap, never let them linger. 3 months is still a good pull on 5x rewards, that's easily $3k if you redeemed it for cash.

Did you blend in some organic spend as well, or just VGC's?

barrytuneup Feb 16, 2017 7:41 pm

WF 5%

I spent on other items also. Once they sent letter, do not buy GC again and redeem points now.. They are watching you. The T&C actually state that GC will not earn points. Unfortunately they have been enforcing it now. We were lucky up till now. I have written them off. They kept my CA open but I closed it a month later.

gpen1827 Feb 24, 2017 12:30 am

Closed the cash version of this card almost 3 years ago. Has anyone attempted a churn in a comparable timescale?

matsmyth Mar 1, 2017 4:37 pm

Strategy

I just got mine in the mail. I'm considering two strategies:

1. Slow burn - only doing a few $K per month (under credit limit) until the 5th statement closes, then go hog wild until letter received or 6-mo period ends. This has the benefit of not rousing suspicion hopefully while still earning something.

2. Or, if even staying under the credit limit the first few months will trigger a letter, I should just explode out of the gate and MS as much as possible until letter received.

What do you guys think?

gnomey Mar 10, 2017 6:40 pm

Thinking of jumping onto the gravy train here. Which one do you guys get? I am seeing a couple of different 5x for gas/grocery/drugstore card for the first 6 months on WF website

1) Regular Visa Signature - https://www.wellsfargo.com/credit-cards/visa-signature/

2) Home Rebate Visa Signature - https://www.wellsfargo.com/credit-ca...e-home-rebate/

3) Home Rebate Non-Visa Signature - https://www.wellsfargo.com/credit-ca...e-home-rebate/

4) Rewards - https://www.wellsfargo.com/credit-cards/rewards/

Sounds only 1) is the best deal if I am looking to use the CB to purchase flight ticket...

Thoughts?

calmasahinducow Mar 27, 2017 7:43 pm

I applied for the Visa Signature card last month and I was approved for it (and I have an e-mail stating that I was approved for the Visa Signature card), but Wells Fargo mysteriously sent me the Rewards card that is listed as the Platinum Card in my online account. I'm baffled.

Any way I'll report back on the status of not cycling credit lines for 6 months.

Question - when do the rewards post to the account?

My statement closed yesterday and I don't have any available...and I can't see where I could get a "pending" amount.

I've had the account for about a month now.

Jesperss Mar 28, 2017 8:56 am

Also trying to make a $9k payment from my Chase checking and it's giving me this error:

"Transfer amount exceeds limit. Please try again."...?

The rewards, IME, have always been pending until the statement closes (at which point they become available).

I've always had that same issue with making payments over $5k online from a non-WF checking account. You can call in and make a payment with an agent for any amount you need.

Thank you. Points came available two days after statement close.

Ended up just making the payment in person at the bank.

Appreciate the reply ^

I've seen DPs of being shutdown for cycling, but haven't read if this affects all WF accounts or just the account being abused. I'm planning on hitting the card hard after ramping up for a couple months since they gave me a low CL, but my checking account is linked to someone else so I'm worried about them being caught in the blowback. Anyone know if they usually just shutdown the card or all associated accounts?

Just the card in my experience. Good luck. :)

Jesperss Apr 13, 2017 11:37 am

I wouldn't argue with them closing out my mortgage and canceling the balance :D

gnomey May 8, 2017 1:35 am

Not sure where to put this query - but here it goes.

Has anyone experience a malfunction in their WF VS card chip? Is this a common problem?

Try to use this card at registers at multiple places, all spit back a "chip malfunction" error to me. I am not abusing my card, physically and metaphorically, and the chip has already stopped working after a week of ownership. Now getting a replacement ...

:o

AugustWest May 30, 2017 11:42 am

PSA the wiki is incorrect. This thing is churnable. Follow the 16 month language and good to go. I never got the letter last time, and I am taking it easier this time, but $till...

Can someone remind me how long it takes for WF rewards to post? My statement just closed on 10/6 and it kept saying that points are pending and expected redemption date is 10/8. Today (10/8) rolls in and now it says that expected redeemable date is 11/8... I don't remember if it takes a full month after the statement closes for points for a current month to post or if they post as soon as the statement closes.

Thoughts?

Points Scrounger Oct 8, 2017 1:30 pm

In my experience, points from Statement #1 credit when Statement #2 posts to one's account.

Let me repeat it in my own words to make sure I got it correctly. Any points I earned during September would post when October statement closes, and NOT when September statement closes? So there is a lag of about 1 month

Check again tomorrow. The points should be available by then.

Yes, they hold them back one cycle (for returns, etc.)
