About to make a big purchase - need cc advice
I'm about to purchase a set of diamond stud earrings for my wife (about 4500), and wanted to use a credit card to take advantage of the points. I already have the Chase Sapphire, but which other card would you recommend to give me the best bang for my buck. APR doesn't matter as I am going to pay off the card immediately.
I usually prefer cards for travel, but I am open to any advice you have. Thanks.

10k Spend options
I looked around a bit and couldn't find any clear guidance.
i'm going to be spending about $10,000 in the next couple weeks on a home remodel and looking for the best CCs with good returns.
I would prefer cash/credit over miles but would take miles for the right value.
Thanks in advance

The problem with this is, do you really want to forego the protections that a CC gives you for such a large purchase?
Gaining pts is great and all, but I'd be more interested in a card that offers return protection, as well at protection against losses and theft for as long as possible. Also, if these are brand-name things with advertised prices (as opposed to something custom-made), price protection would be nice.
If you don't need any of this stuff (ie, if you are buying from someone who you know won't hassle you for returns and you are buying insurance anyway) I'd try for a 5% discount. 3% is really not enough.

About to make a big purchase - need cc advice
How about one of the offers out there that are offering a big bonus to take a new card (and spend x,000 in 90 days? I think American is now offering 30 or 50k, I've personally gotten 50k from United and if memory serves, 40k from USAir. My rule of thumb is to figure out where I need the miles and look for their offers, even if I have to take a second card from the same bank. First year is almost always free too.

In which case make sure to go through a cashback portal for Blue Nile. You'll get points/miles from whatever credit card you use plus the cashback.

Price protection is great; if they have a sale in a couple of months you will get refunded the difference. The only problem is that Citi has a $300 per purchase limit with their price rewind (the price difference could very well be bigger than that). I'm not sure about Amex. I think that any World Elite MC (possibly World as well?) has this protection built in also.
You can do this in addition to a cashback or miles portal; the card you use for the purchase does not need to match the portal in any way. Cashbackmonitor is a good way to compare what you will get from different portals (eg for Blue Nile: http://www.cashbackmonitor.com/Cashb...ore/Blue-Nile/) These portal earnings are in addition to whatever cashback/miles/pts your CC gives you for the purchase.
For example, AA is currently giving 3 miles per $1. If you don't already have a AA Platinum card from Citi, you could apply for it, and put the purchase on that card after going through the AA portal. You would get:
Sign-up bonus: 50k miles after $3k spent; you would meet the min with the purchase.
Purchase: 4500 miles
Portal: 13,500 miles
Total = 68k miles. That is, for example, more than enough for a first class one-way flight to Japan on JAL.

Yeah, as VegasGambler's post above mine explains, go to the Cashback Monitor page to see who offers the best deal for Blue Nile. Then that portal will take you through to the Blue Nile website, and whatever you spend will earn you cashback per the portal's terms. But be careful, if you're planning on using some other coupon code or discount deal, then your purchase might not qualify for the cashback. It all depends on the terms.
I wish I had known about cashback portals when I bought a ring from Blue Nile a couple of years ago!

My suggestion would be to crystallize your ideas around the vacation, get specific on locations, and approach your CC enrollment with those goals.
I also would say that, assuming you're comfortable with it, you should maximize your signup bonuses. 3-4 cards. The ones I mentioned already are decent choices, but it really depends on your plans. Signup bonuses should be in the ~$500 range after some spend. 3 of those is ~$1500. 30k of spend * 2% (minimum you should be getting back) = $600. So $2k-3k should be your goal on what you get from your planned spend, in my opinion. That's a nice start towards a great vacation.
Good luck.

came across this: http://www.frugaltravelguy.com/2014/...for-87-20.html
thoughts on above? obviously doesn't have to be exactly that frugal, but any help from miles/rewards would decrease the $ spent

20k purchase. best card
Thoughts on which card is best for a $20k doctor bill? Leaning toward using a chase freedom to get 10% bonus since I have the checking and convert to ultimate rewards. Not sure if there is a better option with an annual accelerator on spend. Can't use Amex. Thanks
