Some of us still earn Delta miles with this card or may want information about past or grandfathered terms and conditions.

Please do not spread panic about miles not posting until after the 10th of each month.
In most cases, miles post in the evening on the 5th of each month if it's a business day, or else the evening of the next business day. "Miles post for purchases made between (inclusive) 5th day of prior month to 4th day of current month."

I've heard conflicting reports on this - some claim it's possible, others say that SunTrust won't count it. If you give it a shot, please let us know how it turns out.

It is possible the amount of deposit has a bearing on whether the account stays open. Small deposit, out of state, goodbye. Bigger deposit... maybe they let it slide?

I put in the maximum initial deposit ($2500) but was closed, not sure if thats considered large enough though but useful as a datapoint.

Cyin: Not sure who told you $2500 was the max. I opened with more than that. So far my account is still open...

I don't live in a SunTrust area and only put down $150 initially (although I plan to move over $3000 eventually to avoid the monthly fee), and so far, so good.

I tried setting up a second dummy account with PayPal to send money to and then transfer it back in to test it.. but PayPal put a 21 day hold on it. Cancelled transfer. Just put in the request to fund my "real" PayPal account with $105.. then the plan is to withdraw it back out to the new SunTrust account. It takes 3 days or so for the funding request to process the money in, then a few days to withdraw it back out.. so hopefully by the end of next week I'll know something.

An even better way may be the free 30 day trial of Intuit Payroll services. That's for sure a payroll deposit. If this doesn't work, that's my next stop. I'll report back as soon as I know something regarding the PayPal.\

Once the extra 15k hurdle is figured out, it's off to the races setting up joint accounts.

Hmm, going to visit my in-laws in FL in a few months. Double bonus: Going to ST allows me to open an account in person and gets me out of the house. Wow, did I just say that out loud? Note to self: Never let wife become a FTer.

Hmm, maybe thats why then? I could have swore when I was opening it the range was $100 - $2500. Oh well!

It's funny because I just got the starter checks in the mail today (and the debit card a few days ago) with the typical "Congratulations!" letter. You would have figured their processing was a bit smarter.

    • I apply for a suntrust account, but am 'timed out' before I get to the funding page.
    • I try again, with a different browser and different computer. Same result.
    • At this point, two ambiguous 'thank you for signing up' emails are sent to me. They're poorly formatted, full of jumbles of numbers and letters, and tell me nothing at all useful.
    • I call in the next day, and tell them what happened. They say I'll receive an email within 24 hours with account info. No apologies.
    • I call them back today, not having received an email. They say, 'Oh, your accounts have been closed. No, we don't inform people of that unless there is money involved… we just close it and don't tell them. They were probably closed because you tried to open more than one at a time, but I don't know for sure because we don't ever indicate a reason for this sort of thing.' STILL no apologies.

So, in summary, they: can't get their computers working properly, can't figure out that the multiple accounts were due to a problem with the application process even when I tell them this over the phone and ask them to close one of the accounts, don't inform the user that his account applications have been denied, and refuse to tell me why they've done so... they can only speculate.

This is a professional institution? This is a bank that I am supposed to do business with? I actually wanted to open and use an account from these guys, but with this level of competence, they're absolutely right to be worried that people will just take the points and run. Honestly I recommend that people run, with or without the points; giving these clowns your SSN is just asking for trouble.
I agree, they are not professionals at all. I had the unfortunate experience of having my business account with them. The most egregious error was when they wired money out of my Trust account twice and did not seem to care when I pointed it out to them. Fortunately, my account did not go in the negative. I also had to remind them to remove the wire fees for the erroneous wire.

Still, I think I will open a personal account for the miles and dump them as soon as I can.

Actually.. for the type of account that qualifies, it's a 3k minimum per month or it's a $12 fee.

I don't know a bank account in the world that has a maximum on it.. lol

    Houston we Have a Problem

Live in CA and tried via the online link another poster put up here to sign up online. I've re-read this thread a bunch before attempting to do this but am saving and can fund an account and actually even get some use out of the account so why not.

Started process online went through all the basics, etc and then last page clicked submit and get a "We're sorry we cant process your request" screen asking me to visit a branch or call the 800 number.

It's late, I really dont want to call and wait 30+ minutes to do this, curious if I get an email or letter so may wait a few days unless anyone else got this in CA and then called and it was deemed a success?

I signed up via online chat - a lot more convenient than the phone, IMO.
