How important is it to wait a full 90 days?

Hi all, I am fairly new to all of this but have been reading quite a lot lately. I got my first two points cards in the first few days of January (both the saffire preferred and united explorer). I now realize that maybe I also should have applied to get a card from 2 other credit card companies that same day complete a full app-o-rama. However, being new I did not. I'm pretty anxious to get more into this and need some advice on if it will really benefit to wait till the 90 day mark comes or if i can go ahead and grab say 3 more cards now but stay away from Chase. And if I do this, will it then be best to wait for 90 days. If I do wait, how many cards would you suggest getting when April 1st comes along? Credit is about 750 if that helps at all.

As an experienced card churner, I'd wait and go slow. I use the 90 day cycle and never am rejected for "too many recent inquiries"

You may get away with it this time but this a long term game that requires discipline. Applying for card sign up bonuses can be addicting. If you're not careful you can ruin your credit score. What's the big hurry?

I agree. There's nothing out there right now that absolutely demands your immediate attention and action. If suddenly a really wonderful offer pops out, you could reconsider, but based on current possibilities I too would definitely wait. Personally, I haven't applied for anything for a few months now, and am letting my credit score build back up as high as possible for the next app-o-rama, which I hope to time with the next time there's a can't-miss offer, or sometime this spring in any case. It's taken a hit over the last 18 months with all the fine offers that were out there.

yo ingy! I've received a new reason for rejection....

Number of requests for new credit cards in the past 12 months
Have you seen this one? Do you have any suggestions? (Like: quit applying? )

It's Chase, but a little weird.

Was approved for Chase United Explorer, but rejected for Chase Sapphire. Applied the same day.

I do OK with Amex, but Chase is another matter. When I call to appeal, they start yelling at me. "What are you doing with all these cards!?"

Then I just cry all night .

90 days isn't set in stone, but it's a good rule of thumb. Like the previous posters said, unless you need the points ASAP, why not wait?

I agree with the others that you should tread carefully.

If you're trying to fix your mistake you're already too late.

How badly do you need these bonuses that much sooner? It's possible you could be approved, I would only advice giving it a shot if getting those miles sooner are really going to save you some money. Regardless of whether you get approved it isn't going to help you maximize your total rewards. It's only going to hurt you. I would tell you to wait at least 6 months to apply next if you apply now.

What happens if someone has a really good offer in another month or two?

Did you apply for those 2 Chase cards on the same day / Have you checked your report? I don't recall if it works the same way with business cards, or with Chase, but many companies only give you 1 pull when you apply on the same day. If only 1 inquiry shows there's a fair chance you'll still be approved.

April 1st isn't that far off, I don't see any reason not to wait a month and a half. There are plenty of offers out there and while no one knows the future, there will likely always be more worthwhile offers around the corner. Are you doing some planning as to which issuer will pull from which credit bureau in your area - and how many inquiries you have on your report from each to date? Be sure you've thought through the minimum spend requirements for each card - I never apply for any card, or cards, if I have any doubt that I can meet the spend requirement without resorting to extraordinary measures.

You already got the 2 cards that will potentially be offering lower bonuses (assuming you got the 60k United) soon, so there's no need to rush into anymore immediately unless they are limited time offers or you're in a time crunch to get something for a trip.
Next time you apply - spread it out between the banks if the offers are good enough.

It's b/c you tried for 2 Chase personals in the same day. It happens occasionally but not often for people who already have a lot of open accounts. One pers/biz within 30 days is generally the Chase rule of thumb - and even that may be a reconsideration line call.

I laughed heartily at that last line. Nice, very nice.

Thanks, and for the Barclays?

Thanks to all of you who have made suggestions. I think I've decided to wait the full 90+ in between. However, I was thinking if the Barclay U.S air only pulls trans union, then wouldn't using the two broswer trick on the personal and business not have any effect on the rest? Thanks again.

If none of the other ones pull TU, then they won't see the pulls, but they will see that you have the actual Barclay's cards.
