You underestimate "or more."
BTW, I'm now playing the payment processing game on the intake side. No profit for me taking credit card payments send in via no fee AP, etc. just doing it as a public service. Small irregular payments from a mix of customers to keep the red birds happy, with the money flowing back through another no fee channel so the red birds can't squawk. May also go the square, venmo, intuit route, but that path takes a nick out of the transactions. Gotta keep a hand in the game, although miles are unlikely to be of much value to me this year. Unfortunately, sometimes you have to actually buy tickets to generate BITS miles to qualify for several years of free lounge access. Boo, hoo!

While this thread is specifically about churning guidelines, there are many other secrets not spoke about on the board because it does ruin it. There are ways to manufacturer miles with little/no out of pocket costs. These are the things people will not give out freely as it is something they do not risk lose. These secrets can lose a person 50,000 miles a year or more with a single method.

Seems that best practices for churning, or general churning suggestions, have changed during the past couple of years. Most recommendations 2-3 years ago were for one big churn (app-o-rama) every 90+ days. At that time, best thoughts on Citi AA churning was no new applications for 18 months after last approval.
Now we seem to have different Citi policies, apparently based on last application vice last approval:
(per Citi AA thread wiki): Only 1 Citi application of any kind per week (8 days to be safe).
No more than 2 Citi applications of any kind in 60 days (65 days to be safe).
No more than 1 business application in 90 days (95 to be safe).
In the past year weve also seen:
- Apparent elimination of ability to have multiple Barclays USAir cards at the same time.
- Apparent elimination of ability to get 2 identical HHonors Visa cards at the same time.
- Better delineation of AmExs policies regarding churning and bonuses.
Previously on this thread we read:
Chase & AmEx- 2yrs.
Citi- 18 months
BofA- 90 days
Barclays- 90 days
Regarding new applications/churning, wondering what folks are doing these days.
The issue of cancelation timing is integral to this discussion, obviously most of us arent going to get hundreds of open credit card accounts, you gotta cancel them at some point. Per the Citi threads: Anecdotal evidence suggests that Citi counts the credit lines of recently-closed accounts for 3-6 months against your total available credit. And were all aware of the haggling over credit limit distribution which often occurs during reconsideration phone calls. Thus it would seem that cancellations immediately prior to new applications are not recommended. While Citi apparently encourages multiples of the same card at the same time, not sure if other card issuers embrace that same philosophy (AmEx specifically states once per year for many bonuses) so cancellations for churning purposes are necessary at some point.
Regarding cancellations (mainly) in anticipation of churning, wondering what folks are doing these days.
(BTW, it would be nice if we could avoid the dead horse of sharing information and good deals and risking elimination versus not sharing. Clearly there are people of each camp here at FT and its unlikely this thread will change anyones mind.)

New BofA reconsideration numbers
The B of A reconsideration numbers listed are answering that the number is not in use.
Here are the ones I found, by phoning B of A CS:
Business 800-601-3923
Personal 866-530-9829
The analyst I spoke with was friendly, efficient, helpful, and approved the application, even though it had been denied for too many inquiries. He closed a not-much-used account and transferred the credit limit to the new account.

Hi, thought I would add this recent experience with AMEX. DH opened 2 Delta Amex cards on 6/27. On 9/2 'he' applied for the SPG Personal card.
Initially cancelled as a duplicate application. He called and they agreed that it wasn't (!) and put it through again.
After further consideration, they still cancelled the application. He called and was told only one application in a 90 day period. He was welcome to reapply on 9/27. Of course, the SPG offer is dead now. -(
