I think the thread needs to be refocused to list events which actually is planned to go thru, because by default the decision is to ban any public event with more than 10-1000 participants (depending on country/authority).

Aha, now we have official opinion:

US warns against events of more than 50

Health officials in the US are recommending that any events with 50 or more people be called off.

The US Centers for Disease Control on Sunday said over the next eight weeks, any such gatherings should be either cancelled or postponed.

San Francisco is going on lockdown:

With the coronavirus pandemic rapidly spreading throughout communities around the nation, city leaders are taking the unprecedented step of placing San Francisco on lockdown for three weeks beginning Tuesday at midnight.

The City will legally prohibit residents from leaving their homes except to meet basic needs including visiting the doctor, or buying groceries or medicine, until at least April 7, Mayor London Breed is expected to announce Monday.

The dramatic restrictions, imposed under a city-issued Public Health Order, will also require non-essential businesses like bars and gyms to close. But pharmacies, banks and other businesses that perform an “essential” role for society will be allowed to remain open.

In a statement, Breed urged the public to remain calm and emphasized “that all essential needs will continue to be met.”

Now the number is 10 (for two weeks). Wonder what unexpected thing happened overnight that changed their recommendation.

ExpoWest (food. healthcare) was supposed to be in Anaheim this weekend. Approximately 100,000 visitors postponed with no date set. Our company was lucky, except for the airlines, we were able to get all of our costs back.

What hotel did you have reservations through? The Anaheim Marriott - where I’ve stayed for the last 20 years - charged my credit card for over $3,000 in rooms and won’t refund.

Marriott changed their policy on March 14 which is probably after your dates. They now allow cancellation up to 24 hours before even on pre-paid rate. I think you missed it by a week.

Feels like skating where the puck was. I wonder if there was any modeling yesterday that 50 was the threshold that should not be exceeded, and now the model gives them a lower result because of changed inputs. Or if the number is just “random”. Every state in the US and country in Europe seemed to have their own thresholds. The concern being that people don’t understand and thus don’t take it seriously.

Credit card dispute in order. The hotels are going to be so slammed with trying to defend no show chargebacks that they're going to miss the 72hr response window for a lot of them, especially with reduced staff.

Does Amex require a response from vendor within 72 hours? They said in their email to me it could take a month to resolve.
