While Copa is nobody's favorite airline on this forum, for those of us living in Latin America this is great news. Their mediocre biz class still beats economy when you're in a last minute pickle.
There is always wide open availability in "J" on United Mileageplus, Avianca Lifemiles, Aeromexico and Airfrance all sell Copa award space. Hopefully stays that way. Crossing my fingers their 737-max comes back in service next year with layflat biz class.
p.s. I've seen them selling space to some other cities in Brazil (such as Manaus in late 2020, not sure if it covered all the cities or if that list is definitive)

I see Ortega's pretending there is no COVID has left Nicaragua off the list but I am surprised to see San Jose excluded as well, as they seem to be doing an OK job of managing things. Although, compared to Nicaragua, one could say the US (almost) is.
Could be more they don't want the visitors vs. not being safe to, for CR anyway.

A friend flew PTY-MIA in Economy. Flight was almost full. Masks required. Served only a sandwich and small bottle of water, no choice of beverage.

The option of cold food in business class is too bad but i recommend that you ask for additional beverage selection for example Wine, Coca Cola, Orange Juice, Coffee, etc.
I see that in my all flight with Copa during pandemic, The Crew not offer beverage but after asked and i get additional beverage.

Flew GRU-PTY on the 737-8 and PTY-LIM on 737-7 last week in J.
First leg I slept during the whole flight so cannot report any service. During the second one, service was at minimum (awful sandwich and water).
Both flights were packed, maybe due to end of year holidays.
PTY was very crowded. Please note that COPA lounge is closed and a cappuccino+whatever muffin is priced minimum 10USD.

I not understand for why reason Copa continued with Copa Club closed in PTY.
I think only reason is save money because in Panama is permitted open and take in food restaurant during Covid-19

Exactly the same as reducing on-flight service: save money on operational expenses thanks to the covid situation. Especially PTY Copa club which is not shared with other airlines/alliances.

Flew all legs of YYZ-PTY and PTY-MDE in J last week. Things started out crappy, as Copa did not have a prefermember lane for check-in at YYZ. The line was 50 deep, so opt'd to skip the line and carry on my 1 piece of luggage. Service inflight was the bare minimum (boxed pasta with roast beef sandwich and water), though I was given a stella when requested. Almost all flights were 3/4 full except for the return leg PTY-YYZ which had 42 passengers total. Since the Copa Clubs in Panama and Medellin are closed, I had to burn 2 of my priority pass vouchers from my credit card to access the alternate lounge, which of course, were slammed with people.
I bought J to qualify for *g in 2021, however, I would strongly recommend against paying for a J fare with Copa in the current enviroment as its basically business class pricing for an economy-level experience.

To be pedantic for the record here, CM sold off all their 737-700s (and E190s too). All 737-800s, and the hopefully-to-be-ungrounded 737 Max 9 in the fleet now. You likely were in the 737-800 B interior with the greater pitch in J and AVOD for your GRU leg, and the A interior to LIM.
