Seems like a much better deal than paying for a 3rd bag.
I drove myself to college 19 hours away and checked 0 bags

Ciao,
FH
If you start a domestic trip on anyone but CO and dont have Status , you will have to pay even for the 1st bag .
Not quite "anyone.". There are at least two carriers in the USA where the first bag is still free.

My wife and I built a house in Florida last year. The cheapest way to get 'stuff' down there is checked luggage, by far. We bought some huge suitcases and fill them to the limit each time weight wise.

This makes me feel like I'm getting even a bit when we get charged $125 each way for each of our 2 cats when we bring them down for a few months. This is typically more than our tickets and they don't get seats.

true but I do believe that you cant have 1 tkt that combines a flight on either of those 2 Carriers with a connecting flight on CO. Thusly a person would need to purchase 2 tkts and that would probably (not always) mean paying more to go from A-B

What if you need to re-check bags in connecting flight?

Months old thread, but seems relevant to my concerns. I'm Silver (not that that helps in this situation ) in an international itinerary with first segment in International Business and the rest in Economy, but with an overnight (more than 12 hours) connection. I think I would need a third checked bag, so I wrote to CO to confirm and got this (paraphrased) response:

SJO - EWR, 12/15 (3 checked bags free @ 70lbs)
EWR - IAH, 12/15 (need to claim/re-check, but still 3 bags free @ 70lbs)
IAH - GUM, 12/16
GUM - MNL, 12/17

If I need to claim/re-check bags the next day in IAH, then I will only get 2 bags free (@ 70lbs). Is this correct? Shouldn't the checked baggage allowance from the first segment apply to the whole itinerary?

CO response also mentioned that "It's completely up to SJO if they want to check in your bag all the way to MNL." In this case, it's 3 free bags for the entire itinerary. I guess CO is saying it's up to the SJO check-in agent whether or not I need to re-check bags in IAH? I'm just puzzled how such an important distinction (to me, at least) seems arbitrary to CO.

Can't help with the overnight connection, but for tickets purchased on or after October 19, silver only gets 2 bags at 50 pounds each.

But MB_Reps is confirmed in Intl Business. So, he gets 3 bags free for that first leg.
However, on Co.com, it says 3 bags free only for Business First. No mention of Intl Business.

I think, your best bet is to get SJO to check your bags all the way to MNL.
Hopefully they will help.

Thanks. Ticket was purchased before Oct. 19, and I noted this in my email to CO.

Speaking of bag fees, they need to clear up the chart and explaination; it's unclear as to what gold/plats get with regards to 2/3 bags with all those stars and stuff; all I see at first glance is a blob of text. It really should be in a chart format, like this:
