Any difference between canceling, or missing a flight?
Due to some last minute action (aka desperation) from some directors at my company, I need to reschedule a planned trip to DC on CO. I was just wondering if there was a difference based on what action is taken... call and cancel, or just not show up for the flight.
I realize there are penalties either way, just wanted to get info from more seasoned FTers. This is a non-refundable Y fare.
Regards

If you don't call and tell them you're not going the entire value of the ticket is lost. If you call and cancel you will have to pay a change fee and will have the original value of the ticket as a credit to use on a future flight.
Are you sure it is a non-refundable Y? I didn't know there was such a thing. Every Y ticket I have ever purchased has been fully refundable and changeable with no fees.

But not until you rebook.
OP means "Y" as in "economy", I think.

Sorry all, you are correct, I meant coach, as in O. Such a shame, I just checked and my IAH-IAD leg was upgraded to F!

Not to worry...even the veterans here often refer to "economy" generically as "Y". Usually when a specific fare class is meant, something like "I was booked in full Y" or "I was on a lowly X fare" will be stated.
Sorry that you have to endure an upgrade, by the way.

For what it's worth, there are several instances in which one may have a non-refundable Y fare. For example, if you cancel a non-refundable fare and use the same PNR to rebook a Y fare you will end up with a non-refundable Y. I found this out the hardway...
