Are you sure it is a non-refundable Y? I didn't know there was such a thing. Every Y ticket I have ever purchased has been fully refundable and changeable with no fees.
For what it's worth, there are several instances in which one may have a non-refundable Y fare. For example, if you cancel a non-refundable fare and use the same PNR to rebook a Y fare you will end up with a non-refundable Y. I found this out the hardway...
