After IKE ops

I had a flight from IAH to DFW for tomorrow night.

They cancelled that flight, of course, and now automatically booked me on the first flight out on Sunday.

Thanks, CO, for doing the best you can.

Makes me glad to be a Platinum.

I will be interesting to see how CO reacts to the mess - luckily they were wise and canceled many flights early and allowed themselves time to plan ops accordingly. I am sure CLE and EWR are a bit crazy at the moment, perhaps even with additional segments to get pax to their destinations.

Extra segments?

Is CO adding extra segments/equipment to some long-haul routes ...or are other carriers able to absorb the crowds?

With a few days of HNL, NRT, and London passengers backed up, I'm curious how they're returning to IAH.

Luckily CO has options to take care of passengers through other hubs, but I am sure it will still be a challenge to get everyone back.

You bring up a good point - will CO add segments?

Well from anecdotal experience, they did great: no problem getting my unaccompanied minor out from either DEN or LAS - and accommodating my request to change in CLE. The agent was very upbeat and empathetic to my uncertainty about IAH, and delays in EWR.

So I call Plat elite line and ask as a Plat if they can give me a seat and she then states she needs to speak with a supervisor. After about 20 mins I get disconnected. Next agent was very helpful, stayed on the line until I get a supervisor but she states your flight was cancelled due to weather. I asked if it's not because of the weather in Houston as oppose to Chicago because only 1 out of 7 flights got cancelled to Newark. Nope weather related, if you want a seat it will be over $600 for a one way 719 mile flight. With all the recent changes, it really doesn't pay to be loyal anymore.

Were you booked in a (paid) F seat to begin with? If not, why should they change you in to one? Were there Y seats available on that (or any other) flight?

No I wasn't in a paid first but the first time I called there were seats in coach on the 1:40 and the first agent I had couldn't get one and then they disappeared. It was my fault for not have alerts turned on which I realized after the fact. The point is that loyalty doesn't matter anymore because it's not worth it anymore.

So you payed for a Y seat and your mad they did not rebook you into F? I don't think it would be fair for all those other people who were already booked on that flight and who already on the upgrade standby list, don't you?

I suggested that but it's weather related.

Good news, a seat opened up on the 2:45 and got a agent that was able to get it.

Just shows to make sure trip alert is on.

Here are the pertinent sections from the CoC. They will force you into a F seat if the reason for the delay is their fault, but not if it is Force Majeure, which weather is included in.
RULE 24 FLIGHT DELAYS/CANCELLATIONS/AIRCRAFT CHANGES (revised December 7, 2007)
A) General
1) U.S.A. Origin Flights - Where the CO flights originate in the U.S.A., the provisions of this Rule apply to a Passenger who has a Ticket and a confirmed reservation on a flight that incurs a Change in Schedule, Force
Majeure Event or a Schedule Irregularity.
...
4) Force Majeure Event any of the following situations:
a) Any condition beyond COs control including, but not limited to, meteorological conditions, acts of God, riots, terrorist activities, civil commotions, embargoes, wars, hostilities, disturbances, or unsettled international conditions, either actual, threatened or reported, or any delay, demand, circumstances, or requirement due directly or indirectly to such condition;
...
D) Force Majeure Event - In the event of a Force Majeure Event, CO without notice, may cancel, terminate, divert, postpone, or delay any flight, right of carriage or reservations (whether or not confirmed) and determine if any
departure or landing should be made, without any liability on the part of CO. CO may reschedule passenger on another available CO flight or refund any unused portions of the ticket in the form of a travel certificate.
The assumption that your loyalty deserves an F seat when you only paid for Y is pretty entertaining.

This same thing happend in MSY. When there is a major weather related problem - and only F seats available - Y fully booked - then CO should (in my view) process EUA and open up Y seats. But instead CO holds out to sell the F seats for maximum amount, when there are passengers on cancelled fights looking for a reaccommodation seat.

They do block F seats and overbook Y on occasion; it has been discussed here recently. But that is different than just move the pax into F.
