Australia on OnePass?

Hi, new here - I am trying to get to Australia in October/November on my OnePass miles - I am aware Cont only goes to Cairns via Guam/HNL - I would much rather go to Sydney than Cairns, and even trying to find a Onepass trip to Cairns has been all but impossible. Is there any way to trade OnePass miles to use another airline that flys into Sydney or Brisbane? All advice appreciated! ^

Qantas. They however doubled their mileage requirements not so long ago, it scotched the trip I had in mind.
There's a special number for booking this, spelunk the CO site, ask back if you're hopeless navigating a web site on your own.

I saw that, 95k on Qantas, only 60k on Conti to Cairns, and I can navigate a website fine, thank-u-very-much.. I was interested in trading, do people trade FF miles? And even getting to Cairns is not easy.

Welcome to FlyerTalk!

Any trading of any sort that does happen takes place on the Coupon Connection forum. You need to be a member for a while and have a number of posts to qualify for that. Until you reach that you will not have a venue for trading here.

And the information provided to you about the QF option wasn't particularly unhelpful, though you seemed to take it pretty badly.

If you are willing to consider the CNS option, note that the flight only operates a couple days/week. If you start by searching for flights to/from GUM and then GUM/CNS you should have somewhat better luck piecing a reward together that way.

THX, I didn't take anything badly, words are taken too literally on the net I think. "No Worries" as they say in Oz.. At any rate it would take a long time for me to post enuf to qualify for your coupon thingy. Yaknow, ya save miles forever to go on a good trip, then it is so difficult to actually cash them unless u want to go to North Dakota in January or something.. Maybe I should just do Boston-Newark-Tokyo or Hong Kong with the miles and buy a RT to Sydney from there, might be easier

Two words of advice: Be flexible.

I take a kick-a$$ trip every year on miles. Including one to Oz on QF. It is possible. You just have to devote time, patience, and be willing to sacrifice a goat or two to the mileage gods. There's a reason why thousands of very intelligent people spend so much time on sites like FlyerTalk. Mileage redemption is a very complex game, and requires skill to get [close to] what you want.

Three more words of (friendly) advice: Spell out words. Thx!

Yes, you seem to be one of the rare ones searching for help who can do that. Seriously, there are quite a few questions that come up on here where people just don't bother to do any legwork first.

Korean Air is likely your best bet for now. The KE flights from ICN to SYD, MEL, BNE are easy to get - even in BC. KE has lots of flights from US to ICN. The 1am KE flight out of JFK seems to always have the best availability for multiple BC reward seats. ICN is a beautiful airport with a great lounge.

I have KE tickets going to SYD return from BNE in March. The return from ICN is on DL from NRT with a KE flight from ICN to NRT. DL has nonstop from ATL to ICN with return, but harder to get, but it may open. 150K per ticket.

And as a bit of a more helpful answer, there should be ways to get to OZ using miles. Probably the best would be to start with all OP partner carriers that service OZ. KE. Obviously QF as someone mentioned. Possibly others too.
Then, also consider routings to make it happen...DL to ICN and then KE/QF to OZ.

THX, but I don't follow - u disapprove of abbreviations? Don't start "texting" with the young generation at any rate, it's ALL abbreviations.. ANYWAYS I guess there is a game here, and I am a rookie at it & need 2 invest some time learning it, then root around till I get what I want. While I have peoples attention re: travel 2 OZ, does one get the visa BEFORE the plane tickets are procured or afterwards? Chicken and egg I suppose.

Thanks for the advice.@:-)

I'll float this topic of discussion around the nursing home. We should be having dinner in about 10 minutes (to complete the joke, it's 2:50 where I am).

I hear they have the internet on computers now-a-days.

But it's too early even for the "early-bird" specials!

EDIT: re abbreviations, I have been reading thru a lot of threads here to get edumacated, and there is more abbreviation lingo on this forum than an AOL chatroom full of 13 year-olds!

For US citizens the visa procurement should happen AFTER you have secured the tickets. It is a relatively trivial process and generally simple approval, unless you're a convicted felon or otherwise wouldn't qualify. If you head over to the Australia/NZ/S.Pac. forum here you'll see a sticky thread that will help you get the ETA visa for free in a "pay it forward" sort of way. I recommend going that route if you aren't otherwise entitled to a freebie.
