Fantastic! This is turning into quite the outing. ^
Thanks :D |
I won't be able to make the Bruges side trip now, as I am heading elsewhere on Sunday and need to catch a relatively early train. I finally purchased my ticket, though. Will be flying through LHR and arriving in BRU Saturday morning on BD.

Put me down as confirmed for this "networking" event!
Good to see you're coming out of the wood work. I'm glad to see you are hard at work on taking advantage of the "other" airline. :) |
Somebody give J.Edward a 10-minute demonstration on something in their line of work (preferably beer brewing), then it can be written off as an "industry seminar" and maybe he can even get school credit for it... hehe

Sadly, I won't be in BRU for this fantastic event. So I thought I start a list of "Must Taste" Belgian ales. In no particular order these are the best of the best. These are ones I either own or have tasted and score at least an 80 on www.ratebeer.com
Abbaye des Rocs Grand Cru Struise Pannepot Struise Pannepot Grand Reserva De Dolle Stille Nacht De Dolle Dulle Teve 10º (Mad .....) St. Bernardus Abt 12 Tripel Karmeliet La Chouffe Delirum Tremens Kasteel donker Kasteel Tripel. If you'd like more infor please say so as I've visited Belgium many times and am very familiar with the beer. |

I had the St. Bernadus Abt 12 last night with dinner. Yeah, it is that good. :D ^^
It sure is!!! Caroline and I were debating over your choice or the Abbaye de Roc Grand Cru last night and the Abbaye won. Which is cool since we still have the St Bernardus. The beer alone will make it a great time plus all the Flyer Talkers will make it even better (if such a thing is possible. |
Hi all,
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to drop off the "showed interest" list ... work is sending me off the week after MLK weekend ... so no Brussels for me. :((( I hope you all tremendously enjoy yourselves, and maybe I'll be able to make a next DO. Happy New Year, GenevaFlyer |
A good restaurant that would appeal to everyone's palate and wallet has been quite difficult to find. Below are 2 restaurants that I've read decent things about. They both have decent variety in their menus and the entree prices are in the 20+ EUR range.
Belga Queen Scheltema The other option would be to just have everyone on their own for dinner and then plan to meet up at the pub listed in post #1. Thoughts? |
I'd be up for dinner.

I heartily concur with regard to the St. Bernardus Abt 12. It is an absolutely phenomenal beer. I was enjoying myself immensely in Quebec City this past week. Nothing quite like enjoying a Unibroue Quatre Centième 400 on New Year's Eve - the last day of Quebec City's 400th Anniversary Year. The fireworks display over Vieux Quebec were also fantastic. I also drank my fair share of Cidre de Glace, and other Hard and Sparkling Quebec Ciders.

I would suggest - "play it by ear". I will be there the day before and can scope out. I can ask about the best arrival time for a group. Maybe get a couple of tables.
I also might suggest the Marriott lobby as a meeting point (not because I am staying there) but because it is right on the Bourse metro stop and likely the closest metro stops to most of the places pubs, etc. anyway. Just a short walk. Other hotels will require use of the metro. |
