Au Does Not Work

Well here I sit in my hotel room pissed off after getting off the phone with my girlfriend who is Gold and her telling me that she a visit from the Upgrade Fairy today. I said " ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!" After flying 80,000 miles this year for work and getting Plat I never got my upgrade for Saturday and got trumped by and Gold and god knows how many others. In the end I don't care if she gets the AU or I do because I am nice guy and would let her sit up front anyways.

Anyone else have this happen. Also, we booked together and then she split her off the res so technically I booked first. I am not a happy camper because now first is BOOKED!

Ok, let me see if I understand this correctly...

You are saying that, for the exact same flight, a Gold Elite received an upgrade before a Platinum Elite?

That should definitely not happen! If that is the case, you should PM CO_Insider, and he would probably want to know all the details...

If the Gold was flying on a Y fare she will trump a Plat not flying full fare economy. Was the OP sure he was on the upgrade list?

Same fare class booked at the same time then separated later. I booked this a while ago when I was silver. Would that make a difference. I called CO and they moved both of us to an earlier flight F confirmed all the way. I am still bummed though, the flight I was originally on was a 752 which is always nice to be on. Co had no idea how this happened and was very helpful.

The person you spoke to might not know, but if you really did get passed over for the upgrade by someone with lower status CO Insider will be able to look at the details of your ticket and get an answer from the people who can figure it out.

For clarification, AU is the immediate upgrade for elites on a Y fare. EUA is the free upgrade based on status levels that happens 5/3/1 days prior to departure. It sounds like the latter failed for you, not the former.

I'd bet that would make a difference.

ive had suspicion of this happening too. There have been flights where I have unofficially been told by the GA that i was "first on the list" then when I get on the plane they go and get someone else for an upgrade. I have no clue how it happens...

You should check that your name on the ticket matches exactly the name on your NonePass account, that has been the source of problems in the past.

My daughter just moved from silver to gold. If EUA is looking at elite level when booked instead of at time of upgrade, can it be fixed by having reservation agent remove FF number then re-adding it? We have 6 EUA eligable segments booked through DEC., so I'm sure she'd like to move up.

I believe that NW has this problem. I can't recall whether CO does.

CO Insider has previously posted that EUA factors in real-time elite status unlike the BF upgrade list (at least at present) which only accounts for your status when you were added to the list.

Okay -- I couldn't remember. Another theory shot to hell...

There have been issues of late that I have heard of (and experienced) when EUA does not work properly.

Recently, I was flying BOS-IAH-SFO, the IAH-SFO was the 9pm-11:30p that may or may not make the last train into the city... in any event the 9pm into SFO is one of the few flights that silvers can count on an upgrade on. The day before I was still not upgraded and it was A9.

I called up to see what was up with that, and the agent (who was great) said that was really odd, put me on hold to check on it. When he came back he said "you should have been upgraded" and did it manually.
Kudos for empowering agents to fix such things, but I wonder what is going on with EUA....

That's good to know as I am on that flight. Now I don't have to post one of those "will I be upgraded on XXXX flight" threads.

My gf was recently on a SFO-IAH as plat. I watched the inventory dwindle slowly from A7 all the way down to A0 on checkin day.

While I'm not sure what happened, I wouldn't be surprised if seats got released to upgrade inventory, EUA did not run, and they were assigned to random Elites as they checked in at different times.

They really need to close that checkin loophole.
