Just popping in for a bit of a warning to those traveling out West, weather is pretty terrible - enough so that WN has canceled their flights to/from numerous airports.

Southwest suspends all takeoffs and landings Thursday in Burbank, Ontario and San Diego and at Phoenix and Tucson in Arizona. Most Southwest flights are canceled in Orange County, and some are canceled at LAX.
CO has already dropped one of their EWR-SAN routings already today, but it looks like the SNA flights made it out before things really became a mess.

My father in law's preferred method for flank steak is this:

1) Pound the steak out to ~1/2 its original thickness.
2) Score the meat in a cross-hatch pattern
3) Marinate in a lemon, pepper, soy sauce-based marinade
4) Cut into ~1" wide strips, roll into spirals, and skewer
5) Grill to medium-rare/medium.

Meh.

You are killing the meat with the pounding and the marinating.

I like steak grilled just a bit to sear in the juices and then served. Bit of salt & pepper before grilling is OK, too. Generally speaking everything else is too much.

Eww - i just looked at the FAA's airport info.. the West is a series of orange -major delays- dots, but worse (imho) is that the southeast has ATL as orange with TPA and MCO as red -ground stops-.

Eww, not a fun day to fly.

Flank steak preps are one of my few exceptions to salt/pepper or a basic dry rub on a slab of beef. Because it's generally a tougher cut of meat, a little pounding and marinade do wonders. You can cut it with a fork. No way in heck I'm going to do that with a nice strip, filet, or ribeye, but with the cheap flank or skirt steaks I get on special, it's a nice way to soup it up.

I'm worried the beer buzz is going to wear off on this train ride. A bit slower than I expected.

While it is slow, do report back on your impression of the ride and ease of getting downtown. I havent had a chance to try and thought it would be a great way to get there!

Quiet, clean and easy. If I wasn't drunk and exhausted I probably wouldn't have even mentioned the slow part. Tonight is going to be rough. I really could have used a nap at some point today. I was up at 5 EST and dinner tonight is going to be a doozie. Long day indeed.

When cleaning up from dinner, fiancee looks at me upon toucing a plate with remnants of marinade on it and says: "You know this looks like baby $hit, right?"

Seriously, who turns down a free cruise?
