Nope. The evil persona that is the Philadelphia sports fan loses out to my lesser hatred of the Yankees every day. I don't mind the Yankees so much as a team, but the Phillies bring with them that wretched pukebucket of a fan base. Same reason I root against the Eagles. The Phlyers are a totally different story - I hate them solely because I'm a Devils fan. Well, that, and their horribly nasally play-by-play guy that I sometimes am forced to listen to.

It was building a very nice head of steam just before the 2005 lockout. The problem with hockey is not that Americans don't get it or expansion to warm-weather markets. Not even close. It's that their philosophy of being a team game is taken to an extreme. I'm all about a cohesive team, but they take it to another level. Hockey management doesn't like to market individuals for fear of disrupting the team concept. That's bad. There are tons of young men who play hockey professionally that have the personality and the look to handle being in the spotlight, and the teams shun that. I've also been saying for years that they need to have more creative nicknames for players. My favorite case in point, as I've posted before: Devils centerman Travis Zajac. His teammates just call him "Trav". Blah. Call him Pat. (rimshot) Don't let Chris Berman get into the nickname business for the NHL (maybe he could have 10 years ago when he was funny and didn't just do song lyrics for commentary...I got fed up with Berman when he incessantly repeated Hotel California lyrics during the NJ-Anaheim 2003 Cup final) but at least engage in some humor that will yield name recognition.

Call and tell them that you are booked on nonrefundable tix that contain enough mileage to make the status level. "If I could have the status advanced to me before these flights so as to possibly get into the EUA pool, I would be very much appreciative" is how the line goes, or something close to that.

A week from today, November 2. I dunno why they have me waiting an extra week, but it may have something to do with getting a laptop/insurance junk/etc lined up for me so everything is in place when I start. If that is so, I can appreciate the thoroughness of the process.

It actually hasn't been that bad so far. Some rain, heavy at times, and I'm sure there will be some nice bumps on the way down, but I don't think it was bad enough to issue ground stops for anything. I suppose we'll see.
